there are a lot of hip/hop rap and RnB African American artists who choose to say the word in their song and doesn't fall in to any of the three situations you describe - is that "allowed"?

Good question. But I'm not sure if a white male like me should decide that. If you are an African American artist, why not asking your African American audience about the use of the word in a specific context? That shouldn't be a problem in times of Social Media.

I think the reason is that it does seem within the African American community that such use of the word is allowed however the issue is whether someone from outside of the African American community then sings the song whilst also using the word - that is (I think) where the line is drawn

But I wouldn't draw that line in Blackpink's case. First of all, they used the song as trainees and (as far as I understood) it wasn't even their song. We all know that young idols can be a bit ... naive? I guess they didn't think about the song lyrics - maybe they didn't even understand all English words. IMO it's the company's and not Blackpink's fault. They let them sing that song.

that is the issue in question my friend and divisive opinions not just in this thread but on much of social media and beyond...

any time my friend - I think that the art of a good conversation is rare these days moreso online where the nuances of body language and English not being someone's first language is lost

even in heated arguments - argue the topic at hand and not the person

no one in the history of kpop discussions or arguments no has ever said "you're right I'm wrong". The purpose is to share views in particular those views of others who differ from our own, to try to understand those who's views are different from ours (because I know my view I know it well because it is my own - repeating a million times doesn't help me understand the situation better). The only person who can change one's view is themselves and only themselves by listening to others, reading widely, gaining more knowledge and wisdom. If a discussion leads to both sides having a better understanding of not only the issue at hand but why the other holds those beliefs it is indeed a worthy discussion

I wonder why a discussion is needed every time it happens but here's my take.
It is a racial slur that was reclaimed by the people it was used on. The people who can choose to use it (or not use it) are black people.

If another race wanted to reclaim one of their racial slurs, they could. Which would mean that I as a black person and anyone else who it never applied to shouldn't use that slur.
If the argument is that black people use the n-word, go back to line 3.

It's in the song? Here are other easy words that can take its place. 2-syllable: person, woman (if that even makes sense) | 1-syllable (just extend the note): man
If those aren't fun, idk try 'bad b---h,' but the point is there are always options.

Whether or not a black person uses the word is their own choice.

If they didn't know, cool. Just apologize, that's usually all the fans are asking.
An apology can be used to show that one knows the error now, and are not committed to doing it twice. It doesn't matter how long ago it was. If that makes the fans feel better, why not. That's a simple paragraph.

This is my perspective.
