I liked Order of the Phoenix and Goblet of Fire better to be honest, but Prisoner of Azkaban wasn't bad.

For me, it's complicated. On a technical level, I'd say yes. And it's enjoyable all around too. "The Order of the Phoenix" is my favorite story, and so I loved the movie, despite the problems I list below. But I think the best movies on all levels were the first two. They nailed it. The look, the atmosphere, the music... I know the books getting darker meant the series went darker too, but "Prisoner of Azkaban" really ushered in the wrong direction for the rest of the series.

Why does no one wear robes anymore?
Why is the music getting progressively worse? What happened to all the beloved John Williams leitmotifs?
Why is the color-grading literally so dark?
Why are spells just bright sizzling lights being flung around everywhere?

Even if the books did go darker, that doesn't really excuse any of the above changes that kept getting gradually worse as the movies went on.

But yes, overall, I wouldn't say it's the best.
You are bringing up stuff I never thought about but I agree. I'm not really a big Harry Potter fan but I saw they were showing them all this weekend on scyfy network and I'm in the fourth movie right now. So it got me wondering which is everyone favorite.

Absolutely. Next worst prolly would be order of the Phoenix. Best book is goblet of fire then deathly hallows. I haven’t seen any of the movies though because moaning myrtle gives me nightmares + I hate movies

To be honest I barely remember any of the movies, I read the book so many more times :jisoosmh:
I didn't actively dislike it so I guess it can't have been the worst? I didn't like the 7th movie or the 1st that much so it was better than at least those 3 movies.

speaking in a movie sense, the half-blood prince was definitely my favourite after i stopped getting annoyed by the greyness over the whole movie - not only is it aesthetically pleasing but the cinematography, scenes, symbolism, capturing the growing darkness in the wizarding world from the books, the balance of greyness but also bits of colour here and there... definitely my favourite :sj_weary:
the order of the phoenix, goblet of fire (because FLEUR) and deathly hallows were my favourite books tho so i am biased towards them story-wise, but personally, the prisoner of azkaban was my least favourite for a while, and even though it's grown on me it's still a movie for a specific mood for me :sanapray:

Personally i like the Columbus movies the most.
But many folks think the third movie is the best.

Is a safer choice than the later movies, after book 3 the the books were doorstops. Therefore the amount of content lost was shocking.

Also i really really dislike the new Dumbledore in movie 3.
