It's Strange When You Think About It

Sometimes when I think about it it's strange.

How immersed I am in Korean popular culture.

I barely pay attention to my own country's celebrities and movies and shows.

Barely know who's popular these days. Or the popular shows and movies.

But on the other hand I'm keenly aware of who is popular in Korean pop. List off names of the players and figures. Know all the companies. Keep up with much of the gossip and rumors. The happenings. Dating. Etc.

Similarly I pay close attention to the Korean drama world and its actors and actresses. The big shows. Etc.

But I can barely tell you what's popular in my homeland. Or what's going on in there. Beyond what I sometimes see on Netflix.


The popular culture of a small country in Asia has somehow become my pop culture. My entertainment and celebrity reference.

When I think of famous people of the top of my head. They're all Korean lol.

Sometimes it's strange when I think about it.

How big a part of Korean pop culture has become to my daily life.


What about you? Anyone find themselves in similar situations?

Yeah definitely, though I don't keep up with the kdrama side of things.

I used to be more into Korean pop culture. But now I'm not into any pop culture at all. I have no idea what's going on.

Same.

Korea is the center of my world. Maybe not quite as much as you cause I don't really follow k dramas but kpop (past and present) is all I consume.

Also a big fan of Hong Kong and Chinese martial arts films.

But there's even more people in Korea and Asia that are like us but are obsessed with American culture instead.

Ive never been too big on pop trends outside Taylor since i used to be more of a alt rock/indie girl
Its gotten to where i found some really popular acts from idols covering it

Actually starting to get back into normal pop culture since kpop hasn't been as great lately

Korean pop culture in general --- no.

But Korean pop music --- yes.

For example, when I first heard the following song I thought it sounded like a MonoTree composition:

i do not follow news about kpop or kdramas
nor do i follow the news in my own country
never read a paper(i will again once i go back to school and use a tram again as they got news papers everywhere inside)
so don't know how you feel

all i do is open youtube and see what's there and sometimes click mvs
and nowadays read stuff on this forum
like i got real life to worry about, so no time for reading news and get depressed knowing the fact the world is a sucky place most of the time because of our fellow human beings being assholes and criminals
