KPOP groups who have lost members due to hiatus and then returned? (2 Viewers)

How well did it go for you and your KPOP group? Did that member come back and then suddenly leave the group?

I have been thinking of xikers Junghoon lately. He went on hiatus after the debut mini album and since then the group has had 3 more mini albums and also a Japanese mini album debut. I'm seeing things like this (open spoiler) and it just makes me sad because Junghoon was an integral part of xikers earlier content and the fans have not forgotten him, even if his company decides to not give us updates on his condition.

xikers is a 10-member group but 9 members with Junghoon on hiatus

Roady only found out that Junghoon was not participating in their 4th mini album once they released the album details and there were 9 member photocards. The backlash they received from this resulted in them releasing a statement about Junghoon's condition and recovery update.

I also think of RIIZE's Seunghan, though there's even less info about him than there is of Junghoon. I really hope both these idols can come back to us.

Oh, I just remembered one that's even more surprising: Xander was kicked out of U-KISS in 2011 due to his lack of popularity, and he rejoined in 2019. Though a lot of that had to do with the fact that the group had moved companies, and that changed the dynamics.

It's still surprising considering U-KISS has been active in some form since 2008. (Soohyun hard carrying there.)

Yep! She came back when Wonder Girls reformed into a "band" (I use that loosely since they played instruments, but also sometimes didn't). It was extra surprising, not just because of the long delay, but she had actually debuted solo a couple years before returning, and her solo debut was really well received. So it's not like she needed Wonder Girls at that point.

I think it worked out for her, though. WG had a couple of their most popular releases after she returned, and her song Gashina did even better than the couple of songs she'd released before returning.

Twice had 2 members leave for anxiety, first Mina for ~7 month and later Jeongyeon, I'm not sure with the time on Jeongyeon as she returned once and had to leave for another break right away

IVE's Rei had to take a small hiatus due to an issue with her heart for ~1,5 month

Everyone returned and the reason why they left was stated by the companies in all 3 cases

He has been appearing sometimes in selfies or in some video contents on their YouTube account, which is why many Roady were curious if he would be back for this release. Ntm they released a statement prior to the 3rd mini album saying he would not be there <_> I think overall KQ just had horrible communication with fans which led to the frustration

It is wild! It does seem like either artists have a temporary, brief hiatus with a clear reason or they seem to just disappear for good and everyone just... acts like they weren't there.

Sunmi's career decisions really worked out for her. She's so clever, and I think it was all good in the end.

no overlap, it was at least 1 year apart I think. For the comebacks.. they took part in the M/Vs and recording of the albums, but did not take part in promotions. Mina missed feel special promos and Jeongyeon probably a few. I think it's always announced beforehand if they would not take part in the promos

I really wonder why the companies like KQ would do that..? what benefit do they gain by letting fans in the dark and not saying anything?

Lia was recently on a hiatus from ITZY due to anxiety.

She missed the last album and promotions, not appearing in any of the MVs or performances. Though she did have one song on the album (since all the members had a solo song, she recorded her's as well)

It was announced that she was taking the hiatus, and then recently announced that she was back for the next album they have coming out.

On that album they are releasing "final" versions of the previous albums songs that will have her vocals in them.

Junghoon’s case is just so frustrating because while I’m sure all the fans don’t want him to return unless he’s actually better, I also think it’s odd that they generally only update when everyone gets worried about his place in the group. I guess I keep expecting him to at least have a part or two in their titles (similar to Mingi when he was on hiatus). I really hope he’s able to heal with no further complications so we can have him back.

In WJSN’s case, it was something like this.

C-Line (Xuan Yi, Cheng Xiao, and Mei Qi): They stopped most of their Korean promotions in 2018 to focus on their Chinese promotions until their group contract ended in 2023 (since they are artists under Yuehua).

Dawon: She had 2 hiatus due to anxiety. One in December 2019. This was during the end of As You Wish Promos, but she did participate in Butterfly Promos in June 2020. The other was in February 2022. She didn’t participate in Queendom 2, but she returned shortly before their concert (this was after WJSN won Queendom 2). She also joined the group during Last Sequence promos and then left the company (she is still a WJSN member btw) in 2023.
