i have been a kpop fan since 2010 so it's been like 13 years and kpop is not been exciting to me since like... 3rd generation.

There was even been two phases that i almost dropped kpop:
- one it was when "sexy" concepts was the trend bc of the success of Girls' Day and AOA and there was a few groups basically releasing too risky MVs that in my eyes was everything but sexy (thank god then GFriend debuted and shifted that trend where companies was forcing ggroups into really sexual concepts)
- the other one was when latin music was the trend after despacito success. it's not that i hate latin music as a whole (i dont even mind occasionally groups releasing songs inspirated by latin music like this and this) but it was not my fav phase. it was really annoying seeing every single group releasing latin pop music, some even doing collab with latin artists when i am sick of kpop being mixed with western artists. i propose a trend of asian artists collabing more with each other

I am even surprised i didn't want to drop it recently with the recent trend of repeating one word/phrase through the chorus with an as well annoying beat but i guess in the meanwhile some groups started to releasing music more in the 90s style like NJ which as more my type of music

In my opinion, kpop becoming too much fixed into making big in US killed the uniquity of the genre i liked with 2nd generation but i fixed my problem by stop being too much obsessed with kpop and turning my attention more into jpop since they have more unique sounding groups/artists and they are not all trying to do the same thing just bc someone hit big with a concept, but above all they dont give a f*ck about making big in US

Not saying the groups suck but when I try new songs from newer groups it's not the same as it was in the past and yeah this is my personal opinion so I totally respect others and their opinions

Like don't get me wrong I still like kpop but I miss the old years when it was still a hit

kpop cannot be boring (objectively) but it can be boring subjectively to certain people
an entire genre or hobby or whatever kpop is classified as cannot be deemed boring since let's say compared to 5 or even 10 years ago a lot more people both know and are into kpop

now if you as an individual find kpop now longer your cup of tea then maybe it's time to move on
we all have different interests and hobbies and these change as we grow so if kpop is or has become boring to you then the question is why not finding something else whether musically or another hobby and pursue that instead?

thats a blessing and curse though, while its cool that they do not get influcend too srongly by western influences, it also means they do not care about accesbility at all.. I still remember poor Yachii-san here not being able to find some really basic informtion about some of this favorite artists because tehre was just no way to look it up if you were not japanese

i think it's not like it's stagnated, but that since it's way more widespread, more groups are getting spotlight or attention instead of the select few that would randomly become internationally famous. so then, you're digesting more kpop than before so it all seems more boring and overused. and of course with it becoming much bigger internationally rather than in a small gp, they're playing it more safe with concepts and all. trying to appeal to a bigger audience, you can't really afford making huge risks.

truth. i only wished for them to stop gatekeeping everything and be more accessible and being less freaky about the copyrights but definitely i don't want them seeking western validation (tho i am fine with them occasionally collabing with western artists (like it seems that Nissy will have a collab with the rapper Saweetie and those things are not new in jpop bc i remember back then koda kumi collabs with fergie and Omarion) but i still prefer to see them collabing more among themselves or with other Asian artists from other countries like for example straykids feat lisa; kangdaniel feat miyavi; Jolin Tsai feat namie amuro)

It's like a circle: Easy acessibilty to their content and laiding-back on copyrights make it easy to start creating a small fandom that would starts to create fansubs that in turn would create a bigger fandom. It would also help if they themselves start to at least provide eng subs in their official content (for example the actor Takeru sato recently have listened his international fans and start providing eng subs in his yt account)

But i noticed that since 2020 it started to become easier to stan kpop bc now majority of those companies are uploading their full mvs on YT and their songs on spotify and similar platforms. And now with the fall of johnny's ent maybe things will getting start even better (well, we will see. maybe i will be wrong)
