Kpop idols - The Gimmick vs The Music (1 Viewer)

The first thing you hear non Kpop fans talk about, whilst checking out Kpop is the "popping visuals". Rarely, do you hear someone purely talking about the music. Now, a lot of people listen to Kpop to HEAR the music and see what all the fuss is about. However, they soon find out there's way more to the Kpop product than just the music, which is more like the packaging at this point. The majority of stans stay after they've SEEN the visuals, the variety shows, the personalities, the reality shows, etc... Basically, the whole gimmick idols embody.

So my question to you, is it so bad that people stan for the gimmick rather than the music?
And personally, which is more important to you as a Kpop fan? The music or the idols themselves?​

I'm glad to see you guys can admit to liking the whole product. Some people act like they like Kpop only for the music but I doubt that's true because you don't get this involved unless you're wholly stanning lol.

They can still like the Kpop as music
but if it's like this they are not part of the whole fandom etc... experience

because it's impossible to say that you stan a group without knowing their personalities, having a bias etc....
they might be just regular kpop listener

I feel like regular Kpop listeners are the Koreans who randomly hear it on radio or something xD

or people on ytb who see a kpop video and watch 2 or 3 song that they like
and claim themself as kpop fans without mentioning that the 2-3 song they saw were all Bts songs

Well I can't say it's bad cause I never stanned a group until I got into kpop and I don't think anyone who actually keeps up with an artist does that without having an emotional investment in them that you could only get from being into it for more than just the music. I listened to a lot of bands growing up and honestly I can barely tell you a thing about them because I didn't care what their names were or what shows they were on, I just listened to what they released and that was it.

As for which is more important it'd be music simply because if I never liked the music I wouldn't have got into any groups and would still just be listening to rock/metal songs I found.

I feel like both are important aspects for kpop, like what makes people stay into kpop and getting into fandoms is the "gimmick"- idols themselves rather than music, but in other hand since kpop is also music genre it's sth that u listen so of course u also want to listen good music. Usually ur fav group becomes the one where these two meet and produce best combination.

It is the package for example RDR, Oh, and Gee were so good and such fun i was very intrigued. Keeping me were the radio lives, music shows and the tv stuff. Anyone can sound good/ok on a mv or cd but Skill, charm, embracing the i am a role model naturally those things are rare.
But they have to be good musically and do stuff i like ofc.

the music or the visual package was not enough for any of my friends watching a mv they just chalked it up to one more strange thing about me :)

Tbh the first group I got really into I didnt find them attractive (Big Bang). A lot of other groups i got into quickly I didnt notice or care for the visuals either (lets be real, who liked baps all blonde era). I also tend to listen to music on spotify rather than check out mvs at first, and that remains true to this day. While I havr gotten invested in a lot of groups personalities, its rarely what attracts me to a group or makes me as invested in them, although I do like the other aspect. What I'm really saying is that its not impossible that the part that pulls you in is primarily rhe music, the rest is nice but to me not really super important, they just take something I like and give that extra push to be extra invested in them, rather than just really liking them.
The sometimes it makes me feel like a bad Stan, since I can't always recignize my favs members, I don't watch their variety of reality shows usually, and I dont know the details about all their lives, but what can you do. Neither reason is a wrong reason to like someone.

I think the combination is important! I usually stand groups that I like both.

Sometimes I just like groups personality/visual and others just the music.

But for me to actually Ryan it need to be both

Well, for me I love the whole product, from the visuals, the music, the entertainment, the idols, etc.
Right now, I am trying to get into Loona more, as I am in love with their concept, the members, etc, but I'm finding it hard to get into their music, though I do like some songs.
I feel like, if I enjoyed their music more, they would definitely be a top group for me, but because I love everything else about them, I am still trying to get into their music.

So yes, the whole product means that I have to love everything about a group for them to be in my Tier Elite group.

Personally the whole product is secondary for me since a lot of idols already offer that so I need to love a group music to stan. Music is also one of my passion in life, I sing.
