Lovelyz’s Sujeong and Jiae have responded to criticism they received following their “Sixth Sense” performance in Mnet’s “Queendom.”

Lovelyz put on a cover performance of Brown Eyed Girls’ “Sixth Sense” for the second round of “Queendom.” Following the performance, some viewers argued that Lovelyz focused too much on showing off their sexiness through “Sixth Sense,” thus overlooking the song’s focus on being free from the pressure of society. A few even went beyond criticizing the performance to make malicious comments personally directed at the Lovelyz members.

During a recent V Live broadcast, Sujeong and Jiae shared their thoughts in response to the criticism. Jiae said, “Until now, I did not care much about malicious comments. However, [the comments about ‘Queendom’] had a huge effect on us because they were personal attacks of our lives.”

Sujeong added, “It doesn’t matter what kind of criticism they make, but we had a hard time because they denounced the lives of each Lovelyz member due to that one performance.” Sujeong continued by asking viewers to refrain from discussing the personal lives of the members and to not discredit Lovelyz’s achievements just because of the one performance.

Regarding people’s suspicions of Lovelyz trying to change their group concept to be sexier, Sujeong answered, “We don’t even think about wanting to become a sexy girl group.”

They concluded the discussion by saying, “We did a concept like this through ‘Queendom’ because we have no plans to promote a song with a sexy concept in the future.” The members also shared that they hope to show even more new sides of themselves throughout the program.

Yeah personal attacks are a bit much. I know it wasn't the best performance but I don't see the point of dragging them so much over it.

But they came in 4th so some people liked it.
They went for something well outside their comfort zone.
None of the other girls did that IMO.
It is not something i am likely to watch often or again (but i never liked the song to begin with :) ) I actually thought it sounded nice.
8 member's is alot you add all the dancers they had for that its like a number from a play not a group performance.
some times that works like say fx airplane.

But the sixth sense deal was too dark.

The Lovelyz Sixth Sense performance honestly wasn't great, but their comment sections were just filled with attacks and negative comments. Some of the criticism is valid: wrong song choice, interpreted the song wrongly, don't have the right vocals for the song -- but some are just personal, malicious attacks discrediting them. That is probably overwhelming for the girls and a hit to their morale.

You can see from their reaction to being announced 4th that if they had placed 6th and got eliminated it would have been demoralising for them which I did see comments of people hoping for that.

I wonder what personal comments they got since those and what i have seen seem mostly talk about the performance. And i think negative comments about performance or choice of song are alright to make, it's competition after all. But i don't think they did that bad, I don't think they even did bad actually nor i think it's wrong to want to try out new concepts. But i don't think they lived up the their competition and that's why their performance is criticized in sometimes too harsly. But i don't get why plp left negative comments of them as persons.

I did see one comment myself where a Knetz was going through a couple of groups problems which only one of them was really a bash and that was the one for Lovelyz which just said they were a problem.

As well I follow a Mamamoo translator on Twitter which translates articles from Queendom and she tweeted after round 4 that she couldn't stomach some of the comments about Lovelyz and also tweeted again today that Knetz were against the idea of Hwasa and Kei pairing.

I did have a look on NetizenBuzz which had an article on this topic and one recurring theme with the comments was that they were being called talentless and the performance exposed their lack of skills.

One of the comments on the actual NetizenBuzz site mentioned that along with being called talentless that 2 of the members got called ugly and they were being told to disband which that sounds like Knetz.

That's sad, i don't rly think talent had to do with it. They just choose concept that didn't rly fit them so they couldn't completely pull it off :jisoosmh:

The only thing you could really question from it is their versatility but it was Brown Eyed Girls that they were covering so calling them talentless because of that is like the logic fans use where you're either the best vocalist/dancer or rapper or you're talentless in that area.

Lovelyz honestly couldn’t avoid the hate regardless of what concept they used. Had they stuck to their fresh cute concept, there would have been hate comments saying they’re not versatile (OMG faced similar ones for their first performance). Honestly I’m sad that Queendom isn’t giving them the same positive attention AOA and OMG has received. Instead it seems like it backfired.

I think the major thing that turned people against them was the "benefit" of being able to change the song they covered as not only did it get them hate from people who did not understand that it was something Mnet gave to them but then they also ended up talking about how Oh My Girl and Lovelyz had similar concepts and it being hard to showcase a different side of themselves because of that which all came back to bite them between how Oh My Girls and Lovelyz performance were received and as a Knetz comment on Naver the chance to change songs turned out to be poison.

I did not think omg did any thing different than normal omg the song was more 'traditionally instrumented' and the cloth deal was theatrical.
But it did not seem outside the comfort level of omg fans.

I mean you just described a cover as they took someone elses song and applied their own style to it. Lovelyz forced themselves out of their element with the benefit and if they had done it just for the 2nd round maybe it would have been more commendable but they also did it in the 1st round trying to put a sexy twist onto Ah-choo.
