What are some meaningless courses you took in college or primary school that you wish you hadn't taken.

For me its probably:

(1) Personality and Culture. Loved the prof, but the course did nothing for me except for an elective that was an easy A [insert Emma Stone pun]...

Well I didn’t technically finish this class (I walked out during the first class) but the mental health professor at my class was whack. He essentially told us a story about a lady who believed she was a faith healer and told us that she was and we should broaden our minds and believe it. He was super politically correct too, to an unhealthy level. He was also duper concerned about the fires in Australia and iirc basically said misogyny was the problem? I don’t remember all the details for sure.

Sounds sexist. He underestimated the value of women. Women are fully capable of starting fires too.

And very true, I started a fire under the stovetop myself one day, that’s totally on the level of starting an Australia fire.

seriously though... I've noticed that a lot of professors specifically in the social sciences tend to have beliefs or convictions that are dead in the water. Like going to an environmental conference in a private jet.. or making $100,000 but lamenting on the evils of capitalism. Like when you learn more from an adjunct who gets paid $2000 per class than a prof who earns $30,000-150,000 annually...

Yeah social sciences and humanities are hit or miss because they can insert their opinions and yeah sometimes their actions or position make those opinions hard to believe or take seriously

For me, since I had a humanities minor, the classes I took based on Art, History, and Theatre tended to be more objective than those in the social sciences because, well, it relied more on events, recognizing specific periods of art, and discussing the meaning of specific plays which mostly were written in the 19th century and before, which modern politics wouldn't have messed at all with.

For me, since I had a humanities minor, the classes I took based on Art, History, and Theatre tended to be more objective than those in the social sciences because, well, it relied more on events, recognizing specific periods of art, and discussing the meaning of specific plays which mostly were written in the 19th century and before, which modern politics wouldn't have messed at all with.

Yeah I guess that’s true, humanities classes can be objective for aure, though for example in history my professor was clearly biased to certain politicians and the like.

Cultural anthropology

It was the only class left that would fulfill those basic prereqs. I still don’t get the point of prereqs that do nothing for your major.
The class was quite literally an easy A. The professor gave us a packet of all the exam answers a week before each exam.

It might just be that majority of my history classes didn't go beyond the depression and as such politics wouldn't have fit in, whereas more modern history classes (i.e., 1970-present) would allow for more integration of person and political beliefs. The closest thing I can remember in history classes to political discussions were about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

It wasn’t super common and I liked the class in general so I gave him a pass tbh

oh gosh, i would say my first pharmacology and toxicology class while it is my major, the teacher really didn’t bother to actually teach us metabolism mechanisms and just made us learn it by ourselves

I took a sociology course for something and I remember in High School it was really interesting and then when I did it in College it was all about political correctness and it was like...I get fed this stuff outside of the class why do I need to learn it in a class too???

in my school it was definitely PE. the teacher basically thought we could learn playing perfect volleyball like it's textbook material and when we did something wrong there was an F. we had lessons at the swimming pool and then she asked students if they could swim... 3 of them including me said no but she gave us the same exercises and gave out Fs for not completing them. then for the rest of the classes she was flirting with the lifeguard (i wish i was making this up )

lol i had a fitness for life class kinda there, bu tit was running. I ran so much for that class. .5 hrs credit grrr.

sure they claimed they wanted debate but....

you should have seen the shocked faces when i said organ donor on your dl was as useless as a way to get significant number of organs. Just a virtue signaling check box.

I'm still surprised that people elect to have that as a major. It's basically saying, I want a degree where most of the shit that comes out of my mouth is bullshit. Lol
