there was something in the books but YA dystopia is not know for greatness.i mean i definitely don't know why people liked divergent when i went back to it, it's pretty bland in comparison
i think the only one i thought had a nice concept though i never read it was the maze runner.there was something in the books but YA dystopia is not know for greatness.
Yea i read the first book.i think the only one i thought had a nice concept though i never read it was the maze runner.
i expected a lot more from a movie that supposedly made grown men cry i didn't cry at allthe fault in our stars... probably my least favourite movie ever made, i hate it so much
edit: wait it's not a franchise so it doesn't count at all. but i hate it anyway
if anything i cried at how ridiculous it was or cried out of regret to spend two hours on watching thisi expected a lot more from a movie that supposedly made grown men cry i didn't cry at all
I forgot the hunger games even existed even though it was so huge years ago... LOLAgree twilight....
At least the others are fun. Well hunger games is a tad depressing .....
I was fine with it until my english teacher pointed out the misogyny of it lmaoi think the only one i thought had a nice concept though i never read it was the maze runner.
i actually never even thought about that yikeyI was fine with it until my english teacher pointed out the misogyny of it lmao
guys are living in a relatively chill but dangerous world until *gasp* a girl comes into the picture
then boom everything takes a turn for the worse
I honestly feel like the divergent franchise marked the beginning of the watering down of dystopian ya in generalalso the divergent movies were pretty overrated ngl(dont get me wrong i love them, but theyre not like AMAZING)
he was a pretty chill teacher overall, he also mentioned how similar the hunger games' reaping was to the lottery in the short story the lottery—another thing I cannot unrememberi actually never even thought about that yikey
ya i get what u meanI honestly feel like the divergent franchise marked the beginning of the watering down of dystopian ya in general
the hunger games were by no means perfect, but thematically it was pretty solid; it was the later dystopian ya that turned thg's reputation for the worse
a lot of the tropes that people like to complain about in dystopian ya (useless love triangles, chosen one mcs, 16yo protagonist who is more competent than literally any adult, mindless fighting) kind of started with divergent imo. while thg has some of those tropes, they are mostly subverted: katniss never wanted to be the chosen one and was used as a piece of propaganda, katniss is aware that she is essentially powerless in the rebellion, katniss eventually realizes that a lot of the fighting she engages in is useless, and the whole love triangle thing was to point out the shallowness of the capitol
but I do suppose divergent is good for some mindless reading, as with most ya lit
