Mixed feelings.
I'm really trying to force myself to like SeNNNNNNorita. It's not to my taste at all :((( It's experimental but the arrangement feels a lil too haphazard for me...relatively. I just can't get rid of this sense of disappointment I have. The rest of the album tracks (except for one gem!) also feel slightly underproduced. The production does not feel as crisp as I AM's tracks (and Hann's). Flaccid is the word I have for it. (lol dont kill me.)
But it does give off a sense of maturity, specifically in the sound and LYRICS. The lyrics are so THEM; you're able to identify with it and understand the story they're drawing for us. This is where Idle shines in this comeback. It's what elevates even their weakest songs. The title track might have been off-kilter, but any other song you hear and you can perfectly tell it's Gidle.
I respect that they are obviously trying something different, you can absolutely sense that. Esp with Soyeon's choices with her own verses. I'm surprised that they would actually release a type of album like this so soon, it just feels really grown up?? I would have figured they would do a faster conventional type club banger for a title track. But this is certainly a unique way of delivering a new sound for us/them. All the better though, because they'll learn what works for them and what doesn't.
But I want to write a love letter to Say No/Put It Straight. The only song I really loved (i would add Blow Your Mind if not for that awful YOUYOYOUYOU). But Omg it sounds quite simple at first, and I was worried esp after Please (meh). But this was honestly wonderful. Call me basic but I can't stop replaying it. It's ..so sad! but there's a subtly snide tongue-in-cheek side to it that I adore. The emotional vocals sell the hell out of it. The intermittent stops, the dreamy quality! Ayyyy. This is that mood song. If this was released by some Korean folk indie act or idk like Bolbbalgan, it would be a Top 5 hit.
I'd give the mini a 5.5/10. I don't know how well they're doing on the charts and I've yet to watch interviews... but I know they'll need all the streams after the divisive (?) reaction I've seen so far. #WeStanforLongevity #StreamForLongevity
everyone likes the bsides more so far, senorita is a hit and miss for fans, some really liked it, some needs to hear it few times too like it, and some just dont
Performance on charts is too early to tell, what is definitely clear is their 1st day sales is 2nd only to GFRIEND in 2019 and about to surpass I AM total sales, physical sales wise IDLE 2019 >>>> 2018
I dont feel it underproduced at all, its just a change in basic composing since soyeon did all the scores except BYM by Minnie, so there is a change in that perspective
Personally I like it even more than I AM I feel all the songs are different yet it doesnt make me feel I hear a diff group at all
