Why do you think it is that when people talk about most issues they are nuanced. But when they talk about porn there's no room for nuance? Like I'm in this class right now and the topic was about the sex industry. I am literally the only one in the class to bring up flawed research design and confounding variables. Personally, I get the vibe that a lot of people fall into the confirmation bias fallacy when it comes to pornography. People's view on sex is their own business and everyone has the right to think porn is insidious, but for the life of me I cannot understand that when we talk about sex issues some people tend to forget everything they learned regarding constructing a proper argument...

How would it do the opposite? It makes it so so much is considered ignorant, incorrect, or harmful. And it eliminates debate and discussion so if you want to talk about something controversial and maybe understand more of it you could be called a sexist, racist, nazi and more for just wanting to discuss it.

Especially if you don't hold the IDEAL view that PCness holds.

Well. The theory behind the policing of language is that it would help to reduce harm to certain groups. Like Communism the theory does not match the outcome. All it does [pc culture] is create more harm when it seeks to reduce harm; therefore doing the opposite of its intent. Like the serpent eating its own tail.

While I'm not religious I do believe that in the absence of religion people will put something in its place, which is why blind adherence to particular political and social parties is common as is otherizing those who try to disagree.
