I thought they said they never were contacted by a company and that it was untrue.

According to the fansite, they had the location approved and paid the deposit in mid May (and there are Weibo posts of them announcing it a few days later) and had the full thing paid off by early July with finished designs released in August

It seems unlikely that they failed to contact SM at any point during that times

They can still have the approval for the location with the approval of SM
Since the ads were suppose to be put in the coex mall and it's not the proprietary of SM
So the owner of the coex can give them their approval to post ads
And they don't need sm approval to to make the ads and pay them

I think it might be a problem of right of images considering the fact that sm still own krystal, victoria, and luna image
They might have had a misunderstanding, the fanclub might have don't manage well the things or contact them too late after doing all the preparation etc.....

A fanbase that was more fractured than any i have seen with a huge middle child chip on its shoulder. As clearly opposed to Shawols who are one of the most united and legit had a middle child life.

A group that for some crazy reason never toured. ever. and never really targeted china like say exo did.

Sm did fail to pull the trigger on Suili after rpp which is when they should have let her leave to begin transitioning to acting. (actually i think the show with minho was the beginning of the end of suili as a useful fx member)
This MAY have kept Victoria in Korea after red light and not had her one foot out the door during 4 walls.

Once 2014 happened and they let Vic set up shop in China fx was done as a viable group. Each member had other jobs.
