yeah the first produce groups had only 1 year contracts, but imagine if a group was on hiatus for 2,5 years, until then probably at least 10 new groups have debuted, it would be very hard to comeback, especially if the group was already struggling before or at least did not belong to the top
Yeah, it is harder to comeback in 2.5 years, especially if multiple members are gone and can't promote. Which is why it would depend on that as one of the factors. Yeah it can be done but it depends on information we don't have.

$$$ talks.....and Mnet's got lots of it! Small agencies are fully aware of that! Hence the show ig.
Money isn't the only trick up Mnets sleeve though as rumours had come out that Mamamoo were "strong-armed" by Mnet into doing the 1st Queendom

I wouldn't be surprised, to say the least. Just like some "seniors" are on Puzzle to boost the ratings, not to end up in the final group, its pretty obvious.

which ones in your opinion? :passcodea:
From a business standpoint, anyone 23 or over would not be considered a sound long term investment nowadays. While they are still very much capable of performing, some may be considered as "over the hill" in an industry where new 4th/5th gen groups are now being pushed with 14 yr old early teens.

Times have changed, sadly. Which is probably why, personally, i'm not into Kpop as I once was. Back in my Teens, Minzy was the odd exception in the biz and most idols were on the verge of 18 when they debuted. Those days are gone.

oh... this all very confusing to me as so many members of active groups are taking part :sanapray:

Lets say 3 members of weekly make in it, wouldn't that mean the rest of weekly is pretty much disbanded ?
The problem with being active in both teams is we all know the tempo for new groups is crazy.

at least 2-3 songs that first year.
reality shows
Tons of promotions.
Then they are again calling this global so expect promotions not in Korea so travel ect.

Right now not knowing what the contracts length or terms. I will guess that if 2 or more members of a existing team make it will not be great for the team. Depending on the team and members. Ie Cherry bullet could go with just Haeyoon as main vocal, loosing Jiwon as the center too would hurt but Yujin or may could do it.

Nuest promoted with 1 missing member. ( but it was assumed that one of them was left out of wanna one for that purpose.)

Well Suili and Krystal were both 14 same year as 21. Kara jiyoung is 94 line too.
They backed away from 14 years old for most of 3rd gen then 4th took it back up.

it could be interesting Yujin is a 96 but she skews young. and puzzle has some 95, 96, 97,98,99 we will have to see.

I think that you summed it up real well! As I said, 4th gen was a bit of a reset in terms of allowing early teens to debut. I don't agree with this line of thinking but who am i ? right. Looks like their parents did agree, so be it ig!

I think Wonyoung and Yujin were both just so good it scared the agencies. especially with the new laws giving trainees much more mobility.

tbh I wonder if this is really true or if the precption just changed, I tried to look up a few groups and it seems there always have been examples of 14-15 year old teens debuting in all generations

Here a few I could find:
SHINee Taemin 14 years
BTS Jungkook 15 years
Weekly Zoa 15 Years
fromis_9 Jiheon 14 years
Loona Yeojin 15 years

Lets not forget Boa with 13 years and the 2 examples from SNSD Rand already added.

I feel like in the grand scheme of things not much has changed, but people focus more on it now

Not as common for 2nd gen. Some for 3rd gen (like those you posted, except for Taemin). But now, they all do (pretty much). All I'm saying is, as long as they protect them and avoid promoting them as grown ups! I've got a serious problem with 14 yr olds singing "don't u wanna, don't u wanna" or showing up on stage with tights on and push-up bras! That's all I'm saying. If its music in good taste with a teen-like choreo and decent apparatus, then its all good. But some of those agencies are crossing the line at times and it worries me to no extent because kids don't know any better and they end up striving for the dark side of the limelights, unbeknownst to what the industry is labeling them as!
