Oh, it's just an alternative to a hearing aid - the cochlea is the part of your inner ear that helps with hearing, and where a hearing aid is for patients with mild to moderate hearing loss, a cochlear implant would be for even deafer patients. Ergo, the need for a cochlear implant. lol
