i get it that covid and SBS gate happened in 2019-20, and after that the wonder twins were too worried about kicking lsm out. but dang

I think SM didn't understand that the third generation girlgroups could have longevity. So even though Red Velvet were at a career high (with the temporary setback of the accident), the push went to Aespa. They didn't understand that Red Velvet, even at 5-6 years old, had more potential (at the time) than a new group in the states. As youthfulness wasn't as prized and fandoms grew slowly.

Twice is doing possibly the biggest US tour ever for a kpop girlgroup next year - in their eleventh year - and they were less popular than Red Velvet in the states back then...

I think it's one of those things where, because SM had achieved dominant success with their strategy, they didn't think they needed to change it. And everybody else ate their lunch. Sad for Red Velvet. But at least they're still around and got marginally better treatment than f(x)...

And the weird thing is it think given their make up and where they were in solo stuff Red velvet would have been really happy doing 50-100 dates a year, no matter the venue size.
For sure that would have kept Wendy on board longer.
