TLDR: Jordan Chiles was the last to go. She received 13.666, which put her in 5th behind Ana Barbosu of Romania who got a 13.700 (3rd) and Sabrina Voinea, also with a 13.7 (she got the same score but she’s in 4th because she loses out on the tiebreaker). Then Jordans coaches filed an inquiry, which was accepted and raised Jordans score to a 13.766, putting her in 3rd. Of course Romania wasn’t happy and the Romanian Prime Minister said he was boycotting the Olympics Closing ceremony. I get it sucks for the Romanian girl who thought she was third, just to find out she wasn’t, but at the same time, wouldn’t it make sense to wait until the inquiry was over to celebrate? Anyways. People got mad ofc, either saying Sabrina should have gotten 3rd because she was given a deduction for going out of bounds when she didn’t (valid point). Others saying that it was unfair for Jordan to file an inquiry (1. She didn’t, her coach did and 2. Ana’s coach also filed an inquiry so if Jordan was cheating, so were they) and the last reason basically sums up to she’s American so therefore the medal should go to both of the Romanians because Murica ig. But it keeps going. FIG (the gymnastics governing body) announced that they’re reinstating Jordan’s score of 13.666 because her coach was supposedly 4 seconds too late to submit an inquiry, and they’ll give the medal to Ana and probably take Jordan’s medal away. But now the governing body for the US Olympics are saying they’re filing an appeal against that because they have video proof that her coach submitted within the time limit, and reminded the judges of the inquiry a second time before the time was up.
But anyways. The Sabrina point is valid and she probably deserves the medal the most. But somehow she’s the one getting overlooked by FIG. To me, the order of who seems to have the best claim would be Sabrina (who’s getting ignored by FIG), Chiles, and then Ana. Sorry but Ana’s claim seems to be 1. She’s Romanian and they haven’t had a medal in a long time, 2. She started celebrating so therefore she should have a medal, or 3. America sucks (not gymnastics wise, just from an overall feel) so that means they don’t deserve a gymnastics medal. None of which seem that convincing I’m going to be real. So that’s the current status. Who knows how much longer we’ve got
