The methods kpop companies use to keep members in line are interesting
Like... obviously they don't want to do it publically in a way that announced it to fans

but things like...
bad haircuts?
Bad styling in general?
Reduced lines?

Very much a part of the arsenal
Whenever a group looks generally great and one member is goofy this is probably why

I suspect that making a member sing live when they aren't capable of performing the song properly could also occasionally be used
(not sure about this one though)

do y'all have any thoughts on this?

The haircut I know they did for OnlyOneOf mill, they made him shave his head

Too often it feels like companies and managers go on weird and awful powertrips
like sure, are idols capable of being shitheads behind the scenes? Sure

but the companies just... have no accountability

Idk if I’ve seen anything like that with any groups I stan, the only thing I can think of thats similar is something not necessarily a “public” punishment.
During an interview show, Jongho (Ateez) mentioned in his past company (TOP Media, although he didn’t say the company name but it’s the only other company he’s been a trainee under lol…). They would make all trainees lineup once a week and each one of them would have to say “hello” and “thank you” 100 times each, then when any trainee wanted to go down to the underground studio they would make them say “I’m going to the studio” 100 times as well. They also had to practice getting the perfect 90 degree bow as well. Honestly one of the most random things I’ve ever heard a company make their trainees do.

The making them practice bows is making me think of the SM stance
I wonder how SM instills the stance into their idols, but damn it's so hardcoded into everybody who has ever even been a trainee at SM

I think sharing these is good, obviously, every company has flaws like favoritism but I think some companies may punish idols with longer training days and just generally overworking idols. Many companies already do these and idols have it hard enough before debuting with harsh words and idols feeling like they aren't good enough (The world is my oyster lsfrm documentary)

I am firmly of the belief that these things should be talked about to give fans a better understanding of the idol experience. This helps humanize the idols and deromanticize the industry. Having a more thorough knowledge of the industry will also give fans context to things that might be going on behind the scenes.

I just said that ppl should shut up if they just want to spread their own fantasies. simple as that.
there are many ppl online reading shit and spreading it.
if you write 'idol xx from company xx said xxxx' thats fine. I just dont like ppl generalizing topics.
what 1 company did or an idol said, doesnt have to be true for another company or idol.

And sure companies will use different things based on companies

That also doesn't mean that this isn't a common enough thing in the industry to be able to generalize
Idol companies aren't THAT different from each other 99% of the time
It's the same group of ppl who have worked in other entertainment companies and learned the ways from those (Since you NEED to have worked a few years already in the entertainment industry in Korea to be able to make an entertainment company)

It's a small group of ppl who mostly all know eachother and operate with similar business practices
so that's why I think it's fine to generalize

I'm going to respond to this, the entertainment business is stressful. I do dance(kpop and hip-hop) it's very competitive and you are watched closely. Of course it depends the company you choose but mine is very strict since we do competitions you have to weigh a certain amount etc. Kpop is similar to that, I currently am apart of a Dance and singing unit under my company.

A lot of entertainment companies do similar things when it's competitive.
I can provide more information on the entertainment business if you need.

I think that these topics should be discussed in the capacity from the information we have available and shouldn't allow companies the benefit of the doubt. In my eyes every kpop company is guilty of mistreatment until proven otherwise, in your eyes it's the opposite.

I have read plenty of those stories too.
I NEVER disagreed that the kpop industry can be toxic, stressful, harmful etc. to the idols. I NEVER said kpop companies are a paradise and everything is fluff and happiness and all idols get treated properly.

u can talk plenty about it, but unlike you, I dont have a full opinion until I know both sides. as we all know, there have been (very few) cases in idols lying. just take Jimin's and Mina's (AOA) case for an example. like I said above, I`m not saying everyone is lying, but as there have been cases in the past, you should be more careful when you dont know the full picture. sometimes media is fucking up ppls opinon too, just take Onew's (SHINee) case for an example. when he accidentally touched a womans leg when he was drunk in a bar, he was suddenly called a sex offender. even after the police deemed him innocent, ppl still called him that. I`m pretty sure there are still some ppl saying bullshit like that even now. just like there are cases in which fans choose to ignore facts about their idols confirmed by the police and still support them. opinion is made easily. Lukas is another example. is he guilty? is he not? we dont know. but ppl discussed his case to the fullest without knowing the facts, because both sides didnt leak information anymore at some point.


this will be my last post here. I`m already having a migraine and no energy to explain my point yet again.
which I didnt even have to in the first place. just accept that I have a different view on some parts and the same view on others.
its not like I said I completely disagree with what you said. I just have a different perspective.
