1. TWICE
[IMG]

Is there a bigger song than Cheer Up? It's digital sales speak for itself but the song was literally used as the current president's campaign song. Is there a bigger impact than that? Then there's TT which literally reignited the Hallyu Wave in Japan. TWICE reopened the door to Japan and started a wave of Korean-Japanese girl groups. Korean entertainment companies all across the country are basing their girl group model on TWICE. That's crazy lol.

2. GFriend

The first group to have their song to reach 100M streams on Gaon. The first group to have their song outchart Big Bang's Lies. Although, these days, these records have been surpassed (as all records eventually), GFriend were the first ones to do it. Not to mention, GFriend became the first group to have the same song sell 1M in two years (1M in 2015 and 1M in 2016). Furthermore, Rough use to hold the record for most hourly PAKs ever. The previous record was 12 hours but GFriend got 66 hours. I think people underestimate how much of a digital revolution GFriend was for the industry.

So now when you've read all of this, you can see how much these two groups have affected the industry. They really do remind me of Soshi and WG. The impact both them and their predecessors had on the industry is crazy and pretty immeasurable. I hope people, especially international never forget what they've done for Kpop :')

Nobody seems to remember that the original fanwar for the top spot was Twice vs Gfriend. People just underestimate the impact Gfriend had and how bigger it was than the current groups (for their peak of course)

I'm just happy that at one point, GFriend was on top. I'm content with that and now I just want them to be happy and healthy :maheart:

I feel like people measure impact while prioritising longevity so top groups who are stable for a long time get put above ones who smashed but weren't stable over a long period for whatever reason since even Wonder Girls seems kinda downplayed.

Still, impact isn't just that. Gfriend were one of the top 2 groups for about 2 years. Yet people nowadays only mention Twice and Blackpink when it comes to 2rd gen impact. Like Gfriend existed too! And RV also had a great impact with RF

It's the same with 2nd gen, sadly. Like, we rarely hear about acts like T-ara or KARA who smashed it as much as SNSD and 2NE1 did. Idk what it is with people. I really hope GFriend doesn't get lost in time like the other two eventually did :(

They better not. MGT, Rough and Navillera etc were huge hits! If those songs were forgotten it'd be a huge shame

Roly Poly is still the best selling Kpop group song ever yet no one really talks about that :yolk:

Seriously, that's a big crime. That song is a freaking bop and not even seeing it get covered is such a huge shame

Twice is the undisputed physical and hit machine that SNSD was but taken to the next level with the current gen change in tempo and reach.

Gfriend had huge hits that hung with the best of twice for a period of time. Not sure WG is the right fit for them.

So far the only current gen group is have seen that looks to go after SNSD's be everywhere on tv Is IZ ONE. And they actually have the variety kids to do it.

Rv has dabbled in tv but not done much, done well hosting ect.

MMM Added great vocals and non traditional songs to the mix, monsters on the college circuit.

Now that i think of it Twices biggest impact is the tempo change I mentioned in the other post.
They made 3-5 cb (adding Japan) a year the norm thats crazy.
The only group that has been successful bucking that trend is bp.

To add and by coming back so often they sucked up a even larger amount of oxygen and built insane momentum.
That changed the game because instead of just 1-3 groups really dominating (as with the bg) 5-7 gg have been popular with big hits during this run. It grew the market instead of stifling it.

This Tempo has really contributed to them staying on top, added to the monster fanbase.
Think of it as a hurry up offence in football or a run and gun in Basketball. You force the enemy into mistakes and then punish them.
It has killed every other gg They just can not come up with enough good songs to keep up.
Gfriend was able to do 1 year. 3 songs (MGT, Rough, Nav).
RV has had flashes the latest was the year from Rookie to BB (rookie in Feb- BB in late Jan) with 4 Hits(you can string it to 5 with the RR sept 16). But the tempo was too much for SM just as it was too much for Source.
MMM same deal a strong year but inconsistent.
