Her idea: The U.S is making the virus to kill of China and weaken it's power... How do I live with this woman.

When I came into this thread I was expecting the theory that it escaped from a lab in China which makes way more sense. Wuhan has a very high level laboratory, one of the only ones in the world. They began researching SARS, which is another coronavirus. Chinese sometimes aren't great with lab safety and there are only so many measures that can be taken. Given all that I don't think that's necessarily what happened. Wuhans wet markets do give a lot of opportunity for a coronavirus to happen, given all the different types animals from all over the world, some legal, some not, and definitely some capable of carrying a coronavirus. So sure it's possible, but I think it would have been on the Chinese side not the US lol

Ik you don't believe in it being dangerous but the death toll is significantly higher than SARS even now, which is the disease they were testing so if their goal was to make a deadlier version they succeeded big time.

The morality numbers are off because of the massive under reporting. Flu is at least 2 orders of magnitude maybe 3 than this thing.
300 million plus have the flu world wide each year, atm we do not have a million infected ( I would say the current infected number is off by at least one order of magnitude maybe 2 which would put it well under flu.) we have a 3.4% rate but because its so under reported move that decimal 1-2 places left.

It targets the very old and infirm not an ideal bio weapon.

And that last part is the kicker operational security on something of this size is impossible. The world would not take use of weapons of mass destruction/terror quietly. At their heart bio weapons are weapons of terror.
Standing U.S. policy is a gem is a Nuke.
The doctors would figure out if it were lab created.

basically if you are under 50 probably have a better chance of a car killing you.
Sure you may get sick, but most cases are very mild.

There is soo much power to be had for the taking right now. The media frenzy has driven people crazy. Now is the time especially to be afraid of of new players at the power table.

And it's a lot easier to be able to deal with the flu. Hospitals know what to do. They have equipment. It's not going to run out. You can get a vaccine. Basic sanitary practices. Sure you can still get it but those are some things you can do. Atm with the coronavirus you can isolate and use basic sanitary practices and that's it. So my guess next year is that people will get the vaccine and practice sanitation. Because yes the flu is dangerous, but those will help. Younger people are more at risk because they have immunity that is true. So more younger kids will die because it's a disease dangerous to younger people than older people, whole with covid 19 more older people will die.
Then you have to consider the rate at which people are contaminated. The coronavirus on average spreads to twice as many people per person inf cted than the flu does. Wuhan is 6 million + since more folks were home for the holidays. Since its a surprise there it spreads unchecked for the full (asymptomatic ) initial time. For 2 cycles maybe 3 call it 40 days maybe 60. Likely spreads unchecked thru most of China's major transport hubs in a week starts trickling down. (also that gets it global 2 months before anyone talks about it.)

What i do not know is just how touchy they are in China in the deep winter. Its not Russia where hugging is prevalent or Europe where kissing is.

Call it solid social distancing.
If this were anywhere near the level of threat its being spun as. I would expect infection numbers at the point of origin of a true persistent aerosol to be 600k in the region 10% or so maybe 15% like the flu( shoot 2x if its 2x + as contagious). Its a tenth of that.

It is a newish bug and a virus and there are no cures for viruses that i know of.

I do not hate old or higher at risk people, but we are blowing up the world as if this were a zombie apocalypse level threat. At the end of this mess common folks will be much worse off than they were before . And its getting spun so they will be grateful about it.

The first potential case was in mid November I believe, end of November was when more than one case was found I think. The end of December was when WHO was notified, so let's cut your days down to about 30. The majority of China doesn't celebrate Christmas and I don't immediately know of December holidays for them either. As for the infection numbers you aren't taking many factors into account. First there's the environment of the place, which makes a big difference in the spread of diseases. Then there's the fact that the Chinese government isn't trustworthy to give accurate data. Either way when taking all these factors into account it seems that on average it is twice as contagious as the flu, which the chart you posted earlier shows. The R0 of covid 19 is 2.4 while the R0 of the flu is about 1.3.
The problem is that we don't all fit into little boxes where old people are only around old people and young people are only around young people. Sure of I get it I won't be much at risk since I'm young. But if I get it and am not extremely careful I'll pass it onto my siblings and parents, who then would pass it on to other people, who would continue to pass it on. By not cutting the ability to pass on the disease it becomes significantly more dangerous.
In general yes it's not going to necessarily affect everyone on this site as we are on the younger side of the scale. But it still could, and if it doesn't it would affect those they care about.
With the flu we understand it, we can predict how it'll change between years, figure out the mortality rate, ect. With this virus we have no idea. Maybe it'll die out. Maybe it won't. Maybe it'll mutate strains in fashions similar to the flu. Maybe it'll cause long term damage. Maybe it won't. We don't know and we won't know for a long time. That's why it's so dangerous. We don't know what'll happen and the extent of the long term dangers, so as bad as the current situations are it could get worse for all we know.

There are a lot of speculations and yeah, there is the idea that the virus was created in the lab, but not to kill China or something. it just started there because the population is huge and it was easy to spread. But who knows now... we are only particles in this big world
