"Congratulations!" SM squeals at the girl seated in front of him in his plush office. "You are officially a member of the NGG as of now!"

Koeun stares at the man. Has he lost his marbles?

"You told me that a year ago!" She replies deadpanned.

SM's grin falteres the tiniest bit.

"Yes. And we are happy to have you-" SM gestures his hand at Koeun "-you in your budding young age of 22-" He gestures again. "-in our NGG! "

"And guess what, we have decided a concept for you." He replies eagerly. "It's gonna be cute. As in cute that would put Twice to shame. "

Koeun sits petrified in her seat. This cannot be happening.

"We have hired Cheer Up producer to produce you a debut song." SM continues. "It'll all be cute. Cute song. Cute dress. Cute choreo. Cute expressions. Cute makeup-"

"But- but the trend is girl crush nowadays-" Koeun stammers.

"Since when have we followed the trend?" SM replies calmly. "Now hop along and start practicing cute in front of a mirror-"

"I quit" Koeun utters loudly. "That's it. I quit! "

"So are you ready? " SM squeals excitedly, looking at the girl seated in front of him.

"For debut?" Lami asks, disbelief evident in her voice. "We were supposed to debut TWO years ago. Of course I'm ready-"

SM dismisses her with his hand. "Not that." He replies. "Are you ready for Dr Kim?"

Oh that. Lami gives a slight nod with her head. She is ready.

"Oh damn girl, you'll look fab with your new face." SM replies excitedly.

"It's just a double lid surgery. " Lami replies. "Hardly a new face."

"Rome wasn't built in a day." SM replies calmly. "Dr Kim will slowly build your new face, procedure after procedure." SM continues elaborating. "After two years & the sixty plus procedures we have paid the down payment for, you won't recognize yourself-"

"I ain't cutting my face sixty times-" Lami looks aghast.

SM pauses and sighs. "You think Irene was Irene before her sessions with Dr Kim?" SM states patiently. "You think Yoona was Yoona before Dr Kim?" He continues.

"There are little sacrifices to be made in the name of success-"

"But sixty procedures is a bit much-"

"Irene had 88-"

"I quit. "

"So," SM starts." We have decided to use the tested & proven wildly successful, concepts of your seniors, on your group." SM says to the girl sat in front of him.

Yiyang brightens visibly. Successful senuors with successful concepts? "EXO? SNSD? "

"NCT. " SM replies matter of factly.

"But they don't got no successful concept." Yiyang blurts out & regrets immediately.

SM stares at the girl calmly. Did this girl just say his group is a failure?

"So here's how it goes." SM starts in a no-nonsense tone. "We will debut you in the main subunit-"

"There'll be subunits?" Yiyang's eyeballs nearly jump outta their sockets.

"-then with time we will take some of y'all and shuffle em all up with Loona gals and make more subunits." SM continues, oblivious to the interruption. "We'll keep adding more & more subunits. Perhaps we'll be able throw Everglow gals in to the mix as well-

"I quit." Yiyang shouts as she slams the door behind her.

I honestly don't think they were forced to quit. I think they quit because they were sick and tired of having their debut delayed. Lami has trained with NCT, even, and she was still in the SM dungeon. They made a huge mistake letting her go, she has the potential to be the visual of this generation.

in that you are correct. They will not debut an act rather than following the trend.
SM makes the trends in their minds it is their identity and they want to get back to that.

SNSD and fx were both strong when RV debuted ofc that did not last, and SM was left with a group they had positioned to be hard for constant support as the only active gg.

Combine this with the train wreck that is NCT to any but die hard nct stans, and SM is Desperate to be the talk of the industry again.(to the point he is playing with other companys acts.)
