I am personally of the opinion that it's absolutely wrong to any extent to put hands a child unless your 5 Year old has gone murder mode and is actively trying to strangle you (which is highly unlikely). I think it's not only lazy parenting but setting them up for failure by instilling the mindset that when a person does something wrong, they desrve to have harm inflicting upon them. That doesn't always turn out well when they grow up because let's just say nowadays I prefer to wear long sleeves. And that's not an exaggeration either because there's been studies conducted that show an inherent link between being hit as a child and developing mental health disorders like depression.

You can always talk about sensitive matters to your children
beating kids is a form of abuse
it is not needed in any household

I think a spank on hands is the max, to tell them, to NOT TOUCH THE FUCKING HOT STOVE.
Also yes , children also sometimes partake in violence, for ex. The case of James Burglar where two 10 year olds kidnapped, tortured and murdered a 2 year old child.

The answer is no.
BUT
I feel like parents should do more efforts to PARENT their children.
Because nowadays that doesn't happen and it's the reason why I find most kids annoying.
I watched Supernanny a lot and I'm a fan of the timeout method.

Most parents these days don't parent and call it gentle parenting and these kids don't know the word "no"

I was hit with the back of a wooden brush and I came out ok though (or at least I'd like to think I am)

If you have to get violent to parent your child then you just aren't ready to be a parent as a caregiver being a source of fear for a child is going to mess that child up either from causing them mental health issues like depression or attachment issues in relationships or they grow up emulating that parent thinking that's an okay way to behave.

Ugh idk, my parents love me but they always did this and when I think of it makes me cry. It started from when I was very little, my dad stopped when I became a teen and my mom still kept going even few years after 18 and she still could do it because she was much taller and bigger than me and I could barely defend myself. I remember once she tore up my shirt and I loved that shirt very much. I never understood why they did that if they loved me, maybe anger issues.

I definitely think parents who can’t disciple their kids without threatening them with some kinda violence aren’t putting in enough thought and effort. If you're planning to have kids, be more responsible and think it through.
My oldest cousin who has been hit as kid is now a dad of 3 and his kids are so well behaved. He’s a former Marine, currently and army recruiter. Never once does he think about raising his hand to any of them. They love being kids, they love hanging out with their family, there’s so much trust between the kids and parents.

I didnt have that level of trust with my parents till college. I’m half Indian and was raised in a predominately Indian household. Also from the era of you will get your ass whooped with a slipper, rolling pin, or the thing we pressed hot tortillas with. My mom rarely did this. It was more fake threats to get me to pay attention in Science. My dad was more slap forward with the disciple. And my dad's sisters lived with us growing up so they felt the need to disciple the same way. Everyone was very verbally abusive too.
On top of that, they fought so much growing up and it seemed like they finally got along when both my brother and I moved out. How are kids not supposed to feel like they were responsible for their parent’s fighting all the time. Everything looked like a domino effect.

You can raise your kids without making them fear you.
And I understand there’s levels of physical disciple.
^This was “normal” for people my age and immigrant households growing up.
We’re far from “normal” tho. We’re riddled with anxiety about everything. We're just conditioned to power through because there's rent and bills to pay and we worked so hard getting out of that hole so I can finally have a whole pizza to myself on Friday night while binging Friends.

Today, it's a joke we throw around but that's how we deal with it. If I bring it up in a serious manner, I'm scared they'll stop talking to me so I never bring it up.
I do love my parents still and want to continue having a relationship with them.
Rethink having kids if you think physical disciple is the the way to go.

when I was a kid in the '80s and '90s, my parents spanked me and put me in time-out a lot whenever I got in trouble, but that was just what parents did back then. Not that I condone this behavior nowadays, though. That was then, and this is now. I think any form of physical discipline now is domestic violence, and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't even deserve to have kids.

Unacceptable. I never understood the reasoning behind it. If it was literally any other situation in which you struck someone or someone hit you, people would say it was awful and that that person should get away immediately, but since it's your HIGHLY IMPRESSIONABLE and DEFENSELESS CHILD, it's suddenly okay and they "deserve it"? What kind of ass-backwards logic is that???
You know what I think the reason is? Angry people have an excuse to be violent in a way that's "acceptable", so they latch onto it and defend it. You constantly see people act disgusting towards others bc those other people are seen as "inferior" in some way or they're "awful people, so it's okay!" and therefore it's more acceptable to do so. Humans constantly seek out ways to justify their cruelty.

Also let it be known that providing basic necessities and not hitting your children alone does not make you a good parent.

The scientific data is clear on the result of adults who were beaten as kids. and I think we have enough adults with trauma, so I'm decidedly against it.

When you beat your kids, you never solve problems. Instead you cause more problems! You give the impression that violence is something normal. Especially young children learn by imitating their parents. So it's possible that they start beating other children - it seems to be ok because their parents do it too. That's how bullies are made.

That being said, in today's crazy world children should learn to defend themselves verbally and physically if need be! But they should also learn that physical violence is an emergency option. The psychological effect of self defence training for kids is the self-confidence boost. Bullies search for easy prey, not for people that radiate power - like the little girl in this video. Just because of her body language she shows no victim mentality.
