i once found a lost wallet and walked by it because i didnt want anyone to think i was gonna steal it, but then i realized how dumb i sound and turned back to pick it up. an older woman reached down for it just as i was about to though; something about the way she looked through it made me question her intentions but when i tried to convince her to let me take it to the police station she insisted she would do it herself

i really hope she actually did and my passivity didnt cause someone to lose lots of money but it also made me think, how would i have reacted if this was a more serious situation? my biggest fear is that one day i'll witness something horrific and instead of helping become a bystander
