When do you consider yourself a fan? (1 Viewer)

Do you have to like most of the artists releases or do you have to like a few? I’d consider a fan if you like most releases at least. I certainly don’t like all by an artist. Would that be a non Stan?

Fan is pretty casual i am a fan of many groups in that i invest/spend time on them, not just a song or 2.
they are always in flux as too how much i really care.
Most of those groups failed to get me to stan point.
Wjsn, OMG, April, MMM , IOI would be in that list. I typically like them, but not the bulk of the work. I might even know some/most of the members names. If i do not really like all the members then they are fan level.

STANed groups i am much more committed to, and i have to like/love everyone.

I think in tiers... Ergo, I don't view a fan as a monolith, but rather as a gradation of groups. The lowest I would consider a fan would be someone who likes around five songs from that soloist/duo/group. However, since I think in tiers, that would only be a tier 1 fan. This really would only apply to established groups since a group like NeonPunch who have like five or six songs... However, BP doesn't have an extensive discog, yet they are big... But thats another issue.

So, to clarify, a fan would be someone who likes a few songs... It would range anywhere from that to investing one's time into an idol's endeavors. Do you wait up til' 1 AM to hear a groups comeback? Do you wait until you wake up? Maybe you wait 2 or 3 days? Or a month? or six months?... I would say the top of the pyramid fan is one who is approaching standom and has listened to every song from a particular group and likes most of their material; has engaged in some form of comeback rituals (if the group is still together)...

An example of why I feel this way is as follows: Ethan likes some songs from [insert group here]. Specified group has an extensive discography of 150+ songs. Ethan discovered this group a month ago and likes 15 of their songs. It would seem ridiculous for him to have to listen to every song before being considered a fan. . . . Or you could use me liking the whole of 1989 and choice singles from TS; Am I a TS fan? Yes. Have I listened to every song she made? No.

If you have successfully made it to this point in my rambling mess of a post, gold star for you, because I don't know if I could make sense about what I'm saying half the time...

I more or less have tiers. What makes someone my ult is when I love basically the full discography and when I can't decide on a bias anymore because I have fallen in love with all members

I'm in this weird and probably unique position where I am not stanning anyone. I'm just a fan of good music and there hasn't been a performer who didn't release a bad song.

i think of it this way, i sort groups/soloists into one of these catagories:

ult - god mode (hyuna, shinee, and nct)

stan - know all the members, fully commited, love them, love their music (ex: clc, (g)i-dle, itzy, 2ne1, sunmi, chungha, bigbang, exo, vixx, and ace)

casual fan - starting to like them, have been keeping up with combacks, and slowly learning the members or like but never got fully invested (ex: x1, ab6ix, girls generation, wjsn, got7, and aoa)

neutral - they're meh, only like one song, or only find one member interesting (ex: nature, 1team, iz*one, up10tion, f(x) and hotshot)

dislike - for the most part no groups are here but sometimes particular idols fall here (not going to give examples for my own safety lmao)

I enjoy a lot of songs from groups and artists, but I don't consider me a fan of everything.

I'm only a fan of the group/artist if I actually invest some time (and money) in them for a long period of time.

Back then, I used to have this mindset in which knowing all of the members and their discography is a must before "officially" considering myself as a true fan. I completely ditched the "knowing all the members" mindset, but I still do feel like I am missing out whenever I start liking a group and I don't know all of their songs.

I kind of feel the same. Sonetimes I don’t know all members but I am calling me a fan.
