Why are there more male composers than female composers (1 Viewer)

I heard stray kids produced their own debut song, so is it only fair that JYP let Itzy do their own as well? unless they didn't want to, which is fine since it must be a huge pressure to dance practice, sing practice, variety practice, and on top of all that produce a song. But I am just curious why male idols are more self composed. (I only know IU, Soyeon, Jimin aoa, L.E) . I always thot music was more a girl thing ( and I merely mean like the vibes it gave me nothing deep ok okkk) but I guess guys dibbed that too (jk im not srs xd) :llama_prance::llama_smooch:

They probably can't/don't because they don't have a talent for it. Don't get me wrong but most male idols don't compose either so same reason.

Many new composers/lyricist write sad sappy love /heartbreak ect songs. most companies want happy upbeat. Something peppy 😀

It depends on the company and kinda the concept. Sometimes "self-producing" is also kinda a concept for a group.
Males and females have very different training schedules and varies among company.
Sometimes females just never got taught in it.
IDLE's Soojin has enrolled in a uni recently to learn to compose songs.
Soyeon might've learned it whilst waiting on the others cuz her training was almost finished.

Truth is: there is probably a 50-50 ratio. Usually there are a lot more female composers behind the scenes

Probably society, i mean girls are probably less expected to be into that so they might not even try to pursue composing as much. They might lack opportunities too, maybe they don't get chances same way. That's a serious answer ^^

Well girl groups are more public friendly and attract a wider audience. Because of that companies probably are a lot more strict with what they release. Also girl groups, in my opinion tend to be less complex musically then guys, probably for the reason I stated above.
If a girl group is going for "artist" its usually vocals, so not based on them needing to write.

Also, and I usually don't say this but I think its sexism. Women are more controlled and perhaps are unconsciously not seen as capable so responsibilities such as creating the groups sound isn't trusted with them.

Nowadays, lot of new boy groups are following the BTS model. That means companies encourage self-production, difficult choreo, and rappers. It doesn't matter if the song is good or not because bgs are fandom-based.

Girl groups probably lack the same opportunities. The music industry is still very much male-dominated.

I definitely agree with what you said. Plus girl groups on average seem more vocally talented than boy groups.

I mean look at yg, he prides himself on having a company full of artists who can produce and compose their own music but didn’t let 2ne1 produce or compose their music until the end of their career, and with blackpink he doesn’t let them compose or produce even though they’ve shown that they can do just that and they’ve shown interest in it. I think i don’t even have to say this but the kpop industry is very sexist and biased towards boy groups...

Y, biggest reasons will be sexism and a society that looked down on women for centuries, old habits are hard to break. Even in Germany women earn less for the same work as men and by far more men hold the positions of power.

Equality is a long process that only started and is not yet achieved wholesome. That said there are a lot of great improvement.
With every new generation more and more people stop looking at the gender and start looking at the individual talent more.

I think the new "self producing" trend with BGs stems from BTS. Since BTS are EXTREMELY successful, most companies want to follow that model now. But NONE of the most popular current GGs are self produced so I'm sure companies don't a see point in allowing their female idols to compose, especially when there's no demand in the market for it, when they can just hire a professional to do it.

It's kinda sad but i think it isn't true at all.. a lot of female (non kpop idol) still produce some songs for kpop industry, it just happen no one notice it.
