Why do you think hit songs by Idol groups are becoming rarer these days? (2 Viewers)

@Abeamus mentioned this in a DC thread and I thought I'd make a thread about it, why do you think kpop groups are having less national hits nowadays?

I think it obviously speaks to the fact that the Korean GP are becoming less and less engaged with kpop but why do you think that is exactly?​

I don't know the Korean GP well but it very well could be they're listening to a lot more international music.
I think that's at least evident in idols who listen to international artists I've never even heard of but I can't say I know the same for any random Korean

Perhaps it is also because the saturation in the industry is in some ways becoming less unique, some companies just replicate the same formulas over and over again and therefore can produce groups that don't appeal to the general public depending on the concept.

I feel like it's a bit of a shame too because this year is one of my favorite years for kpop despite everything happening

Even just moderate hits or idols hit No.1 seen to be rare nowadays though...

I was thinking it was because it's become oversaturated and the international listening audience is becoming more prominent. I read somewhere else that Korea is also getting bored of guy groups because they are catering to the international audience creating music that is less appealing to Korea.

Yeah, that's what I was think too. They music is primarily being made to appeal to international fans as opposed to Koreans so it makes sense that Korean audiences would be showing less and less interest...

I don't know how reliable the source I read from was because I typically don't trust their articles but I'd believe it. Even I think the sound of Kpop has drastically changed within the last year or so and its getting harder to find some variety.

This year is a waste i think moistly because of teh work from home/covid change to life.

really changed patterns. We will have to see.

Probably why dolphin and nonstop did so well they are just happy fun songs.

Yep. Hopefully BH or YG will break with the current girl crush trend for girl groups and bring us something new! BH especially since they are meant to debut multiple ggs in 2021, you'd hope they would all have different concepts!

I would love it if one of the big companies would make an Astro type group! I'd also like a less hip hop influenced group that focused more on vocals!

For me I'm just tired of the really noise heavy boy groups that are all going with dark concepts. I'd like something new. I feel like with girl groups we at least still have SOME variety.

True! I was really optimistic when TXT first debuted because they gave me early SHINee vibes but I feel like they turned into baby BTS real quick...

3rd gen groups are starting their decline and the chart reform has really hurt 4th gens chance.
Not only that but national hits have normally been in GGs.
All the girl groups are doing girl crush now when fun, poppy songs have always been easier hits
