^ As the title says

I personally prefer series for a few reasons:
1. A standalone can at times end really abruptly or squish too much together in one single book.
2. With series you in a way grow more connected to the characters and become more invested in them and the story.
3. Romance, most standalone’s that have romance I’m always meh with it because it all happens in such a short amount of time and I don’t really like it. :jisoosmh:
I think some standalone’s can have great pacing, characters and romance in it but over the years I’ve just noticed that I definitely prefer series (although now that I’m thinking about it most of my favorite books are standalone’s…) :dubuthink:

Series.. Because well.. Character Development. I'm not opposed to crime-based stand alones though.

Series for sure.
now some series i like book 1 much much more than the rest like say on a pale horse but that is kinda a series of stand alones stitched together.

Classics are mostly stand alone's though although even tom sawyer has huck fin.
Verne , treasure island turn of the century types .ect.

prequels are sort of like stand alones as well... The idiot that is me read the Magician's Nephew prior to the main series when it was truly later in the publication order.. but still my point is that if you know little or nothing about main narnia series you could still understand the magicians nephew and not really need to read anything after it. So sort of a de facto stand alone.

imo the mark of a good book collection is a cracked spine. Same for people who regularly do bible study or having textbooks with no writing or highlighting in them. I remember reading through Order of the Phoenix [a thick book] and having quite noticeable damage to the spine because well is unavoidable with a book of ~800 pages. I remember having a mass-paperback of The Eye of the World and there is no way to get through that book without cracking the spine a little.. Although, I didn't read it in that format since I found reading in mass-paperback format very annoying and disruptive for me. lol

I'd say just watch one of the many dramas featuring a cancer storyline and you would be good. I watched Scent of a Woman in 2012: A drama about a woman who spends her life being timid and frugal is diagnosed with cancer and given six months... Basically she becomes involved with a guy and its 16 episodes filled with typical drama tropes with the added sadness of the protagonists impending death... Cancer dramas are always the worst... in my opinion.. I would have had rather watched Cunning Single Lady (which had not came out yet).. Although Scent of a Woman is good... its just so depressing

Yeah it’s never really interested me, I’ve only considered reading it because its so popular but I don’t think I’d be really into it. :nekosweat:

I often, too, tend to dislike characters and books that a lot of people like. It took me a long time to even tolerate Iron Man.
