Shinzo Abe has succumbed to his gunshot wounds at 4:49 am EST.
He was shot twice in the back.
Shinzo Abe was shot 11:30 JST whilst delivering a speech in Nara.
Suspect Yamagami Tetsuya was arrested, and said he was “dissatisfied“ with Abe.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. May he rest peacefully.

this is heartbreaking. i just saw him recently give an interview during the quad summit and he said his health was improving. idk his political career much, but may he rest in peace.

It’s also sad to think/say he had a couple years ahead of him. Hope his family will be able to get closer (imprisonment for Yamagami/something else)

I know that some might be angry with me because of what I'm saying, but considering his political views (and holding negationist views on Japanese history, among other things), I'm less willing to mourn his passing tbvh.
