So TWICE came back with "Fancy" today and let me start off by saying, the MV was absolutely gorgeous and the girls looked stunning. The styling was definitely on point. However, that being said, let's move on to the actual song;

Maybe I'm alone on this but I feel like the production on TWICE's vocals is getting a little extreme? For example, throughout the course of "Fancy", in some parts, I really felt that the girls sounded robotic. Nayeon in particular, as she main vocals the song, I feel was most affected by the production. The auto tune is especially crazy in her "you oooo" part, post chorus.

Now I understand that this may also be a stylistic choice on the producers part. However, and this is strictly limited to title tracks, I've noticed the severity of the production on TWICE's vocals has seen a gradual increase. Just look at the progress from WIL all the way to Fancy and I'm sure you'll notice it.

I just wanted to know if anyone agreed? And also, does it bother you? Because it really bothers me lol.

Fancy is great

I still have to listen to it more to appreciate it fully. It's not the highest title track on my list but It's at least above Knock Knock.
Vocals didn't bother me. Momo's parts were stunning.

I think it’s just a stylistic choice.
So far I am not bothered with it

I mean there's a reason Cheer Up is not covered as much as it should be :welp:
Yeah the key for Cheer Up is pretty high. TWICE themselves were straining on the audio, which is crazy. Maybe that's another problem in itself. The key on TWICE's tracks are really high. But I feel like that's a macro problem with Kpop because even with BGs, the key is always way up there, which is really unhealthy.

Im generally not bothered by overproduction if it's done properly. Like Bon Bon Chocolat; they overproduced the shit out of that but it still sounds really good and they can perform it live.

I feel like Twice is really good at going between overproduction and a good amount of stripping it down. We can't forget that Twice is mainstream bubblegum pop; overproduction is the name of the game in that genre

I don't necessarily think that's true. SNSD, F(x) and RV have never had to over produce their bubblegum pop tracks. Records like Gee, Hot Summer and Power Up are all up there in key and like you said, have a great amount of production on it. However, never can you tell that the vocals have this much production on it, you know what I mean? With TWICE's title tracks, you can almost tell "oh wow the vocals definitely have a lot editing going on, on it."

Hm.
I guess I don't notice how much editing is done to their voices. I'll have to listen to them perform it live and hear the difference

I agree, i think thats why i've always been 50/50 with alot of Twice's title tracks, but its more just the style they go for.
Fancy...i'm still not sure on, i like the verses and bridge but the pre chorus section and the chorus are not for me.
I think if i was more into MV's it wouldn't bother me as much, but since i'm just listening to songs alone i tend to focus in on vocals more, sometimes its bothers me, sometimes its works for the song.

Yeah that basically sums up my feelings on the matter as well.

Nah, it doesn't bother me. I've been liking tracks recently that are quote on quote "overproduced", like bon bon chocolat.
The "quote on quote" part is redundant if you're just gonna quote on quote the word itself :maheart:
