Browsing on YouTube I came across a video that defended the post I.O.I groups saying they are actually good so it gave me the idea for this thread which is do you think the post I.O.I groups are unfairly judged because of I.O.I? Since it does seem to me that fondness for I.O.I has led to the post I.O.I groups being viewed as sort of inferior knock offs but looking at I.O.I title tracks and the title tracks of the post groups post Downpour I don't see it myself.

While there are some like I Don't Like Your Girlfriend and We Like in there, but when I heard Dream Girls I wasn't exactly a fan of that either. Then there are songs like The Boots, Save Me, Save You and Crush which I'd put on the same level or higher than Whatta Man or Downpour and Very Very Very is inbetween the two sides for me so there are a few that can match that.

How do you feel? Do you think the post I.O.I groups get unfairly judged or do you think they have a weaker output then I.O.I had?

The post I.O.I group are actually great. I wouldn't say they had a weaker output in terms of music. But popularity in Kpop isn't exactly highly correlated with music quality.

By unfairly judged, I guess the big question is whether I.O.I was beneficial or detrimental to these groups. I'm actually tempted to say yes, but their lack of popularity could just be due a lot of competition from a lot of girls groups rn. I guess the issue of having the I.O.I members outshine other members in terms of branding hurts but the exposure of I.O.I did help some groups become known. I dunno which is greater.

Yes they do.
Some of it just because folks want IOI back. Others just because none of them have broken out, or sold much at all digitally.
Some Just because Pristin has been so fubared by Pledis.
WE Me
Gugudan
are doing at least as well as OMG was for quite some time.
but not as good as say Lovelyz
They do have a downward trend for sales but.

I never really count WJSN as post IOI since they existed pre IOI and Yeonjung. but they are doing the best.

Definitely, but its not like the judgement are wrong tho, most of their songs are a miss. I.O.I songs are not that great tbh, its the produce series brought them to where they were.
I personally only liked Downpour and Whatta Man tbh
It was mostly the members that drew me in the group

Post-IOI groups definitely get judged harder
But part of it might stem from the company’s over promotion of the IOI members in some cases (ex. DIA)
Perhaps for DIA but for Gugudan though it seems people only want to see Sejeong, with the comments Gugudan got on a vlive and also thinking Sejeong should just be pushed as a soloist and the rest of the group is dead weight.

I like I.OI the lineup but not all their music was exceptional. I love some post-I.O.I-group songs better than that of I.O.I. These post-I.O.I groups are judged rather harshly for music, other members, and especially sales.

However, as it gets further away, I feel like this mentality is disappearing as compared to how it was in 2017.

The crazy thing is looking at the numbers again.
Pristin clearly did not do worse than the other 2 both 8-9 member groups whose companies are continuing to support them.

Memo to all females do NOT go to PLEDIS under any circumstances.

The problem is that the groups all have different concepts/sounds that doesn't even match IOI's sound
Did I.O.I really have a sound? Dream Girls isn't like Very Very Very and those two are the closest in terms of concept, Whatta Man and Dream Girls could have some but then Whatta Man wouldn't be similar to Very Very Very and Downpour isn't similar to any since it's a ballad.

Talent wise yes they are underrated because the others members are talented too. As for music I actually prefer IOI music to the post IOI group music for the most part.

In my opinion WSJN have the most consistent discography followed by Gugudan. Pristin also have a good discography minus some songs like We like. Who love this song ? Weki Meki is more inconsistent and I am sorry for DIA but theirs songs only became better recently for me ( again just my opinion).
