So there’s obviously a good amount of autotune used in BTS’ newer releases versus their old releases. At first I kind of thought that people were exaggerating too much when talking about their usage of autotune, but after listening to their latest OST’s and their newer music again, I can see why people point it out so much.
I’ve been listening to their newer songs a bit more carefully and noticed that some songs just used way too much autotune (for my taste). I think using autotune is okay, but not when it’s overdone. Sometimes I wonder if their newer songs would be better if they used a lot less autotune. I feel like their songs could be more enjoyable if they didn’t use it so heavily like they did with Idol, for example. I love hearing their natural voices a lot better.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the autotune is okay to use? Or do you think they should use it less frequently?

I love BTS but in my opinion they overuse it. But I dislike overused autotune with every group. I think Fake Love would sound so much better without Tae's overly autotuned voice
I agree. I love them, too. However, the autotune is heavily used in their songs and sometimes it can make them less enjoyable. I feel the same with other groups as well.

I agree. I think autotune can be very effective if it is used well but I dislike autotune on every line. It took me a while to get used to Mic Drop Remix because of all the autotune on it. It was like I was hearing different voices and I think I would have enjoyed the song a lot more if it had been used in some places and not all.

It's only my opinion though and it isn't like the boys can't sing. It's also why I prefer listening to their live versions when they sing with their actual voices.

I think autotune is okay as long as it's used stylistically and not because they actually need to use it if that makes sense?
I understand what you mean. I think using some autotune is okay, but not when it’s used excessively.

I am not disturbed by that except recently for Dream Glow. Only Jungkook sounds well. Charli, Jimin and even worse Jin voice were weird honestly.
I didn’t like Dream Glow that much. The autotune made it sound a bit weird, but I might give the song another chance to see if it’ll grow on me.

right, I dont even think its just a problem with bts, im finding that a lot of kpop groups nowadays are using more autotune to kinda fit in with that new trap sound that everyone is going for.

I actually love the Mic Drop Remix, but I will admit that the autotune is used a bit too much.
I think the guys are good singers as well so I don’t understand why autotune is used more frequently now.

I’ve noticed the same thing with some newer groups as well. I guess using auto stylistically is a popular thing now. I wonder if groups will ever stop using it excessively though. :dubuthink:

I really enjoyed it too. It was just the autotune, like you said, that put me off a bit. And I don't understand either - maybe it's to fit into pop trends? I'm not really sure...

I guess it could be part of the new pop trend. We already know that they’re trying to appeal not only to the Korean market, but also the Western market a bit since they’re pretty much a global sensation right now. So, I guess it’s a bit understandable that they’re using more autotune. But, it’s still overused a lot. :/

it's mostly because of how popular trap music is getting in Korea... kpop groups, of course, want to follow the trends... and trap music definitely overuses autotune. when trap music kinda dies out... kpop is gonna move on to the next trend. its kinda like how every single kpop group was trying tropical house in summer 2017 and then when that trend passed, they stopped doing it and moved on to other genres and styles.

I guess that’s a fair point. We’ll just have to wait until the trend dies out and go from there. Maybe after that the usage of autotune won’t be so excessive. :dubuthink:
