According to this Naver article, IZ*ONE and X1 were both excluded from the 40% expert panel, despite being nominated not long ago. All of it was revealed only after the first day of GDA had already ended. Their excuse was that they can't judge a group that was not properly formed and because the producers of PD101 have an on-going court case.

In conclusion, they were never going to give X1 an award since the beginning and IZ*ONE won't get a bonsang regardless of their sales (although I don't see why bonsang would need judging, it should be 100% based on sales and that's probably a mishap on their side).

Why even nominate them then? There needs to be some kind of transparency with these shows instead of leading fans on who hype up this show.

It's just ironic how they rigged the awards in the same way PD101 was rigged when they could have made a fair statement before-hand and tell why they're excluded.

I mean I try to understand their reasoning but it's shitty to keep something like this to themselves and make fans hope for an award only to be let down in the end.

It's just how odd how all these awards shows keep nominating X1 and then go 'but they're rigged and their reputation is ruined' afterwards as if they'll ruin the show if they are given an award but then why even nominate them in the first place. Just put out a statement that they'll be excluded due to this reason to save their fans from endless disappointment. I mean it'd still feel less worse than being made to believe that they have a chance at winning.

Oh for sure. I went on the app and X1 is leading in rookie category with more than 52.7% votes. But for SMA judging panel holds more weight than album sales/digitals. Right now the only award you can trust is popularity because everything else has judging panel.

They're known for turning around last minute and changing the rules so an idol who was nominated suddenly doesn't apply anymore (cough Suju cough)

It would be worse if she wasn't given any award.. though I'm surprised N.Flying got nothing? I thought Rooftop had huge digitals but maybe not enough for top 10.

There are people claiming that they'll give more rookie awards tomorrow but all of the rookies attended today and none will be attending tomorrow and there are people saying today was digitals but then how did TXT win because their digitals are weak (it would make sense for them to win on physicals day though) while as ITZY's digitals are strong. I think these were only winners. None of it makes sense. They even hand out rookie awards as they wish. One year they had W1 as a sole winner, then other year they had 4 winners! I think they've even had 5.

Now fairly, they didn't last long then! They really need to remove that text from their homepage, it makes them look bad. I just dislike how they pick random amount of rookie award recipents EVERY single year, when Wanna One won they were sole winners (even though it didn't hurt to give someone else an award as well), then like 1 year before they had 4 winners, at one point even 5 and now today 2 (even though I actually think this year has far stronger rookies than the year when W1 debuted) and they said there won't be anymore winners. I had people argue with me that there are digital and there are physical rookies but that's clearly not true.

I agreed. It leaves a bad taste in mouth. They shouldn't be rigging awards just because the group is rigged, they should be excluding if they consider them rigged.

Yeah the inconsistency is weird and suspect. They just seem all over the place and buyable

Which category is it about?

It's about different categories.
Apparently SHINee was supposed to win top fandom or something (via votes), Suju was 2nd and SNSD was 3rd. SNSD got the award.
Also Yesung had an OST and was nominated for the award, however they said last-minute he didn't debut as a solo-singer. The year before, Taeyeon won the category with an OST (before she debuted as a solo artist).
The last one I remember is a category for album I think? Suju was going to win that one as they had the highest sales but GDA said they couldn't win the same prize for a second time. There were a lot of artists before them who won the same award like 3 times in a row.
