Is the success of girl crush affecting boy groups?

Is it just me or are there little to no rookie boy groups blowing up right now compared to girl groups?

There are so many discussions about who's going to be the "leaders of 4th generation girl groups" with Izone, Itzy, Aespa, Everglow, Gidle, Stayc and Purple Kiss being named but, I can only name TXT, Stray Kids and Treasure as "gbg/nbg" contenders.

What happened to all the boy groups?

Boy groups used to be heavily promoted in kpop and to the general public, despite that being "a girl group's market" but now, they are so lowkey.

Do you think that the success of girl crush is the reason behind boy groups taking the backseat or are people just over male idols getting clout and then disappointing everyone?

Almost all of the popular 4th generation girl groups have been girl crush so far.

I feel like a lot of companies are prioritising girl groups now because girl crush is the "in thing" and can be easily pushed into America, while boy groups don't have a specific blueprint when it comes to success.

This is a very good topic. I wouldn't say that there's a lack of bgs, namely you're missing ATEEZ, Golden Child, ONEUS, A.C.E, CRAVITY, ENHYPEN, GHOST9, T1419, all of them with a potential to blow up.

Sure, girl crush is an easy formula for int success, mainly because after 2NE1 and 4minute we lacked so much of it, but it's hard job to maintain girl crush and remain relevant. Only a few succinct cases managed to do that. With BGs, not much experimentation was done and as such not much can change. With BGs, companies target girls that will fall in love with the idols and focus less on the musical aspect.

People are just losing interest in BGs and it started during the 3rd gen.

Even the supposedly top boygroups rn (except for no. 1) doesn't have a gaon no. 1

3rd gen bgs who charted good are now eh. wannaone disband, exo military, and winkon have been flopping ever since yg 2019 scandal

I think the difference is a lot of 3rd gen bgs are still relevant whereas for ggs it seems less the case. 3rd gen bgs lead the boy groups world whereas 4th gen ggs are starting to lead the gg world

Maybe its cyclical? Or the no 1 bg is sucking up all the air n no room to breathe for others to rise? Idt ggs are the reason for newer bgs lack of anything, ie success or popularity.

If new fans arent attracted to newer bgs or are only into no 1 bg, i think their still popular with new fans, its nth to do with the girl crush concept n all to do with the no 1 bg getting most attention from fans. At least so it seems from the outside of bg fandom looking in.
