Sihyeon is EVERGLOW's new Leader,
revealed at their 'LAST MELODY' comeback showcase

Korean News Source: HERE

The English translation from the Korean News source isn't great so I'll highlight the important part:

E:U is no longer leader and has given her reason:
"I didn't have any strength while being a leader. I think that Sihyeon will play a good role as a leader after me.
As the eldest sister, I will make Sihyeon support you with confidence.”

Sihyeon's thoughts on being new leader:
She said she is determined and that “As a new leader, I will try to harmonize” ...
"I will do my best so that our members will be more stronger together"

---

Still waiting for more new articles to perhaps write a bit more of what was said from their comeback showcase and thus get a better/more in-depth translation.

However, E:U has said before she was a bit shy to lead and preferred a moral support role and responsibilities as the members' eldest sister.
Not everyone is made to lead and it's often a tough role with various other idols talking about their own difficulties with leading their groups etc.

I'm a bit sad E:U felt like she had no strength to lead, bless her. But overall, I'm certain Sihyeon will do a great job as Everglow's new leader.

Wow this is so random and sudden :jisoosmh:
I don't think I've seen leaders change in a group like that outside CLC where Seunghee handed it off to Seungyeon. I liked EU as leader but if she felt too pressured then I hope she can relax a little now.

Sihyeon has more experience in the industry than E:U and although I never really watch survival shows, I think Sihyeon was leader on one of the ones she was on. So kinda not completely out of the blue for me, especially from E:U saying before that she's not the best leader before.
:sanapray:

My thoughts on leaders of a group: I personally prefer it if the leader of the group is the most "natural" leader and not necessarily the eldest. I get Asian countries in particular have a hierarchy and the "eldest" comes first and takes responsibilities etc, but it's not always logical. There is a difference between being the eldest with responsibilities and being a leader. Those roles are not one and the same.

While the overwhelming majority of Kpop groups have the eldest as the leader, so many of them talk about how hard it is and that they don't burden the other members with their concern/worries so much. This has often made me think that it's perhaps because they don't have an elder to turn to what with them being the eldest. So they bare all the responsibilities of being their leader and elder.

Therefore, if a leader of the group isn't the eldest I think (and hope) they can turn to the eldest for support/guidance. Just seems more of a suitable dynamic than just making the eldest the leader. Leaders need to me natural and comfortable in the role.

I thought this would be another case of a member leaving but I’m glad that’s hot the case :sanapray:
Ooof. I'll update the title as thinking about it I'd have a mini heart attack if I came across this myself.

that's such a hot case

anyway, i never understood, what are the duties of a leader? do they actually have it harder than the rest of the members? yeah, i know you're supposed to take extra care of your members and technically be the spokesperson but is that really always the case?

It's not often we hear what leaders have to specifically do/go through with their groups so I'll only mention Apink's Chorong and what I know about her role as leader.

Chorong has said that being the leader holds the role of being the "captain" of the team and that includes not only the members of the group but the staff in general.

She has to ensure the members are keeping up with assignments, which these days are mostly choreography and whenever they are working on a comeback and no staff are around, Chorong needs to take the leader role literally and report back to staff how things are going. I guess this is akin to a Manager ensuring staff are working to standards and when they report back to the higher ups etc.

Out and about, so at venues and TV stations etc, staff at the company (like SBS, KBS) may report to Chorong about any information or issues that the group need to know about. Mostly this will consist of backstage/behind-the-sense things. Chorong will then inform the group of the information etc. Chorong can also make requests on behalf of the group.

I've learnt this from watching Apink News and the occasional reveal from Chorong over the years about her role.

I think they're making a good decision. Sihyeon does have more experience, and I hope E:U will feel a bit less burdened without that title and responsibility. :pepeheart:

Also @OnlyCalB can I be included in the Forever tag? Is there a forum post where I can have myself added to fandom tags?

They are the boss.

Remember these are all employees someone needs to be in charge every min they are at work .
Since they are always at work someone has to be responsible 24/7 particularly when they are all living together.

They would also be the designated contact point with the company and ofc team stuff at events that the manager does not handle.

individual leaders have more or less dumped on em, like with any company.
in izone Eunbi had to take over for the choreographer for some of the come backs, pretty much she drove them learning and had to do the discipline ect.

Seems strange but I do remember seeing one of the celebratory V Lives Mamamoo did where they drank a little ended up with Solar crying about a time she had to scold Hwasa so it's not for everyone even if they're the oldest and I think for Oh My Girl Hyojung would rely on Seunghee to be there for her since before Hyojung moved out they roomed together.
