I was. I actually hasn't done any from long ago. Back in the day, I tried to learn Lojban and Klingon. I was not motivated enough. That conlanging forum was about creating our own conlangs. I did one for a fictional world of gods, and another one trying to give a language to Star Wars Gand species. It was almost completely an exercise on learning and applying linguistics. Boring stuff for most of the people.Oh, you're into conlanging. I'm not but the sff websites i frequent/ASoIaF forum also mentions conlanging-Klingon and Dothraki are two conlangs i never learned but were mentioned there before. I wonder about the conlanging webspaces you frequent/frequented, never thought they were such a hotbed of highs and lows, Rule 34 or sth ig. (Dont look it up, i generalised from it.)
PS the conlang i had a slight interest in inmy youth was Sindarin or watever language created by Professor Tolkien he wrote about in his work, tried to memorise/digest it but it was too difficult/im too dumb.

i never use social media for photos, i just google oh wait but then google shows photos from social media nevermindSocial media is easier for me to get just pics, but forums are good for actual interactions and news so I prefer forums haha
ah yeah good point with the megalomaniacs towards forum staff, that happens a lot too, it is like people think they all famous or something because of a forum title and they instantly then think they better than the restSocial Media is unorganized.. If its a platform based on what friends or those you follow are posting.. It gets boring really quick. On a forum one is more likely to form interests around specific things and speak about those. I don't use social media anymore other than the stuff I post on Insta, but thats just for posterity.
Are true for forums in general and not this one specifically.
Pros:
Cons:
- Specific discussions rather than ramblings
- Smaller population
- Less political
- Less superficiality
- Less idiots
- More susceptible to corruption
- Depending on the forum, the mods may be megalomaniacs and not understand the concept of different views.
- A mod/admin who is active with the user base may have a tendency to show favoritism toward specific people.
Forums all the way. I can share as much or as little about myself. I can't be found by people with my email or number. It just eliminates some type of pressure to "follow this person" or "like that post." And I can't stand influencers, and honestly some posts of people I personally know. I like having a gif dp and a signature. Forum layouts and color schemes are more appealing to me.
Keke doesn't deserve this horrible gif
ok this gif has not been made too well, it is way to fast and short but you get the point
you basically agree with my views, forums are much more fun visual wise indeed
and you got good points going on, forum is better way to keep yourself private in away and work places won't be able to find yo shit as easy, if you know what i mean
I actually like Reddit lmao. Easy to leave a sub if need beReddit ftw
love the mess there
exactly. tho never leaving Drag Race sub lmaoKeke doesn't deserve this horrible gif
Exactly. I mean I'm not doing anything absurd but still. I don't nor want need everyone in my business.
I actually like Reddit lmao. Easy to leave a sub if need be
are you sure you mean forums there? the one i underlined, i would say that actually applies to social media instead xDforums are nice, but they rise and die with the staff. they sometimes also feel very secluded, a bit "closed" to the other world. it often feels that if you didn´t come in the right time, you might be left out as everyone is friends with everyone and you just feel really odd. also some discussions are just .... what the hell? more people = more chances you might offend someone (and you usually just do offend someone without even knowing) = more drama. forums are also less personal which is both a plus and a minus. they usually don´t load very well on mobile :D.
as for social media, they are faster, prettier if we are going the shallow route and maybe easier, but also more instant and hype. if you are not good at social skills you might struggle even more than on forums, plus social media is full of really really really weird people.
but I came back to using a forum after spending lots of time on tumblr (I do spend a lot of time on Instagram because I like photography, but I don´t think I have ever made a "friend" there) because it started to be weird messaging people out of blue and asking them to talk to you. Tumblr is dying and people are really not that interested in chatting, they are more interested in their keyboard wars. I do enjoy discord for chatting as it is a fast and comfy way, but I only use it for people I "know" aka I don´t join random servers and it is more used for casual talk rather than for discussions.
Forums are also not very customised (profiles etc.) which is a bit off-putting sometimes, but I have mentioned it above. You are just one of many.
Of course both have pros and cons, fair enough, but it is pure luck. some forums are hell to be on and the others are chill. however, it is true that sharing your opinion on a forum might get you crucified by many at the same time, sharing your opinion on instagram or tumblr might have even bigger impact as potentional empolyers usually go for checking instagram or facebook rather than digging into your Internet history.
* by saying lots of time, I don´t mean daily, but in general
yeah i think i agreeI think I prefer active chatroom or discord servers. Active being the key word I need that instant gratification lol And I like starting with anonymity, and if something gets weird I can dip. My love for forums is rekindling though, I'd just assumed that when all of the ones I frequented died that there just weren't any active ones left. Or that they were all awful to look at with no signatures or GFX community...
Back in the day I had a hard time getting to know people on forums as apposed to chatrooms, I think it was just easier for me to be less shy in a chatroom lol Now.. I feel like that's flipped, but that could just be because every SINGLE server I find is either dead or full of 13 year old.
The downside though.. if one bad egg ruins my experience in a discord server or something (someone that isn't actually breaking rules) then I feel like I have to leave the whole server, even if I love the rest of the people there lol I feel like in a forum its easier to avoid ppl if they rub you the wrong way
And then with social media I usually just reblog or retweet stuff and never actually say anything, and then I never post on fb lol I have a tiny squad of close irl friends and we have a group chat so I don't even need other social media to talk to them~ also I still cant wrap my grandpa brain around snapchat
also twitter is just mentally draining.. I feel like I can't open it without getting pissed off at something 5mins in...
hmm, when I joined I was really worried I would not fit in. I don´t worry about not fitting in on Instagram :D. That is true, but usually your comments are buried on Instagram while here ..... not so much :D.are you sure you mean forums there? the one i underlined, i would say that actually applies to social media instead xD
and when it comes to offending others, that applies to everything and everywhere you go online or offline , it is the ineffable unfortunately
tumblr was fun waaaaay back in the day, i quit it when it turned into a free porn place lol
spicytagging more people because this is getting interesting
