That's like saying if I buy a tv and take it out of the box only to discover it's broken or unwatchable I can't get a refund because I took it out of the box

Australian Consumer Laws dictate that if a product isn't fit for purpose ie. it came broken or damaged you can of course get a replacement or refund

they are just trying to deny you your rights
ask to speak to a manager and if that doesn't work call head office and make an official complain and also get in touch with your state's department of consumer affairs

it's not drama it's literally your rights under the law
but at the end of the day it's your money and your product and how you wish to spend and enjoy it my friend

It works on the stereo
