groups: disbandment vs. hiatus (1 Viewer)

This is a question for members of @Wiz*one and @Sone, but anyone can join in.

If you knew your group members were no longer going to be performing or releasing together, would you rather have the group disband or go on "hiatus"?

I used to think I preferred a hiatus, but after seeing what's going on with IZ*ONE I'm not so sure any more. Disbandment brings much sadness, but its finality also means it's an opportunity to celebrate the group's existence. There are so many nice farewell and tribute videos and messages for IZ*ONE now. Fans are teary-eyed, but they're also reliving many memorable moments with the group.

Compare all this to what happened to SNSD: The 10th anniversary events were anticlimactic, and then the group just faded out. There was one Oh!GG release and then silence.

Bcs then at least the chance remains. (with SNSD hasn't it been said that they are trying to organize a comeback?)
+ you are much more likely to get content of members interacting still

I truly believe(as a hardcore OT9 SONE n not-a-wizone) tat these r 2 completely different situations: 1 had a definite ending point(unspecified tho it may hv been at the beginning, only had to know abt I.O.I. to realise tat).

I dint consciously avoid izone but i nvr got into them either.they say its better to hv loved n lost, than to hv nvr loved at all.

If so, id ask was it worth it? Those who say yes, id understand ur answer n the loss. Tat is all i hv to say for now.

Part of the difference is at least all the snsd members are set financially, and will do things that keeps their individual popularity going.

I think it depends as the thing with SNSD is that they'll drop hints here and there of doing something but it never actually goes anywhere which that would lead to people being skeptical when it comes around that they're trying to make plans.

Where as you take Sistar who have never said anything about potentially reuniting until this year so I don't have any reason to be cynical about it since it hasn't been mentioned before.

Overall for these situations though it just depends on if the group has the desire to reunite one day or if it's more so to keep up their brand as for keeping up the brand I'd just say disband however if they do have the desire then they could just go on hiatus but be realistic about it and only mention a comeback if there's a good chance that it could actually happen.

2ne1 and Sistar are both disbanded but both were rumored to comeback, I would say their chance of coming back is as much as SNSD's.

Honestly if the group reaches the point of going into inactive phase, I don't care much more. Fine with any of them. After all, no matter how much people love their faves, even top groups have an expiry date. At some point they won't chart as good or sell as much, so it's gonna be hard to keep coming back and be active.

IZONE did have a 2.5 year projected contract but the forced hiatus and the pandemic and lack of opportunity to see them like tours ect.
let alone how fubared the Japan side of stuff got during the health deal.

They're nearly the same thing but one leaves you hoping so you support their solo careers. It's not fair and it's exhausting

If this is the case, there's no point on going into a hiatus. Keep waiting for nothing? Better to disband.

like Rand said, to me a lot of it is dependent on whether the members can financially survive on their own

snsd has no problem with this, even if they disband or they would go on hiatus, they aren't reliant on group activities to be financially successful
same with my ult group exo, they don't NEED to come back but they are choosing to do so this year and i'm very glad they are. they never officially went on hiatus either so is that worse or better? i'm not sure if they never even say

with iz*one many of the members are not able to financially sustain themselves save for a few that could go into modeling or acting like Wonyoung, Minju etc or ones that are already in another group like Sakura
i think disbanding for iz*one was better than going on hiatus bc i feel like going on hiatus would've possibly kept the members from fully being placed into new groups and solo activities.

the big problem for IZONE members is they are not fresh and new any more .
So packaging will matter and i have zero confidence in any of those companies.
let alone members like Yuri whose company got dissolved.

As much as I 'N Sync's disbandment hurt me (I was inconsolable for like a week afterwards), Imma have to say that. At least there's no "This is not the end / This is not the end / We can make it, you know it, you know..." bullshit with a breakup.

(I know, 'N Sync and 1D were Western groups lol but same would go for K-pop groups for me)

disbandment for sure. I rather know for sure than to have to wait for news of comebacks and following hints.

for example. I really loved 4 Minute and their disbandment broke my heart. knowing that the girls wanted to move on and do their own thing is better in my opinion than empty promises.
