This is inspired by the thread @DarlingBlue made earlier about Twice not wanting to do solo activities right now and it got me thinking about the ideal way to manage a girl group.
Now I just wanna make it clear that I'm gonna be approaching this from a CEO's perspective and not so much from a stan perspective because obviously if I was talking from a fan's point of view, it's mostly just be comeback, comeback, comeback and that's a boring thread LOL I'm also just gonna do a Big 3 group because we can assume they're gonna be fairly popular right out of the gates and I don't have to worry about building their audience as much! I'm gonna say this imaginary group has 7 members since I feel like that's the average size of a kpop group these days.
Year 1:
First off, I would debut them at the beginning of the year in January because that's typically a quieter month in terms of comebacks and I feel like it's the time of year where people are most eager and looking for new rookie groups with it being the start of a new year. I would promote the song extensively, with a longer than average run on music shows, gorilla concerts, a weekly YouTube reality show and daily V Lives. I would send them to a couple of idol centric variety shows but I wouldn't do too many since I'm more focusing on attracting younger female fans that are already into the idol scene rather than the general public at this point.
If the first single charts well then I would consider making a quick comeback with a digital single similarly to how (G)i-DLE did with Hann after Latata performed so well. After that the next main comeback would be in September, skipping past the girl group rush that always happens during the summer months but also taking place before the Halloween comeback season too. Like their debut, I would have them promote on music shows for longer period so they have more opportunities to catch the eyes of idol fans but this time I would start to change up the performances half way through promotions like incorporating different props into certain stages and having themed performance outfits to help increase the possibility of a viral performance. I would also send them onto more primetime variety shows like Running Man and Knowing Brothers to help them gain the attention of the GP.
Years 2:
This is where I would start to go hard with comebacks, 4 a year, 1 every quarter with a 5th Christmas themed single at the end of the year. The promotions for each comeback would obviously be shorter since they're coming back so often. I would also be trying to establish them as variety personalities also with three appearances on popular shows each comeback so that they're really in the public's eye! I would probably do a stand alone concert at the end of the year just to round thing out.
Year 3:
I would send them on tour for the first half of the year so people don't get sick of seeing them all of the time but there would still be fan recorded content of them online, I would also make sure to have one of the shows professionally recorded so that we can sell it as a DVD at the end of the year. Their first comeback would be in June, right at the beginning of summer so they can have the best chance at getting that big summer hit! I'd then give them a comeback in October and a repackage in December. Ideally, I would like my main visual to get a supporting role in a drama this year too.
Year 4:
I would have two girls filming dramas at the start of the year and get a third member a fixed position on a variety show. I would give the other members a unit debut in April following on from the other members' drama appearances so everything isn't overlapping too much. I would then give them a full group comeback in July so they can have that big summer hit again and then send them out on tour. I'd give them one more group comeback in December before the end of the year.
Year 5:
I'd focus mostly on solo activities this year, have half the group focus on dramas and variety shows, give my main vocal and our most popular member solo debuts and I wouldn't give them a group comeback until November, almost a year since their last. I'd do a full month of teasers all through October before hand possibly even film a MV for one of the b-sides, do a shit ton of alternative covers for the album, making it feel really epic and special.
Year 6:
Keeping the beginning of the year pretty similar to the last two with everyone going back to solo activities, give both of our already debuted soloists a comeback plus debut a third member solo, have the other 4 girls focus on TV work, maybe have one of them make their big screen debut. I would make their 1 group comeback of the year in the spring when there are less popular groups active. They will probably be past their prime at this point so it's better from a branding perspective if we keep their comebacks during quieter months where there is less competition so they still perform well.
Year 7:
I would actually give them two comebacks this year in the spring and again in the fall. I would also give solo debuts to any member that wanted one, that hadn't already gotten one before and in between the group comebacks.
