we all know HYBE is always only looking for the profit, that's why they disbanded Gfriend at the first occasion they had after spending days saying how Gfriend were unique and they'll help them to grow and support them forever after buying Source music. They'll probably do the same thing with SM and kill everything good just to pursue the profit everytime. I guess the 2023 new year SM concert was the last one we had free, for 2024 everybody will have to prepare 50$ to pay to see the SM new year concert if HYBE buys SM and I guess it's time to say goodbye to the amazing songs and unexpected collab we had thanks to the SM station project, because HYBE will probably shut down the project because it doesn't bring enough profit for them.

I think HYBE is really really pushing it with the acquisition of SM because the overwhelming majority of artists and employees at SM seem opposed to the deal completely (rightfully so in my opinion). However, I foresee a wave of employee resignations and artists filing for contract terminations if their plans come to fruition about acquiring more shares of SM. They have and are going to make a reckless decision purchasing those additional shares via a loan which is the stupidest and greediest move I've ever seen them make as a corporation. If substantial amount of SM artists and employees leave the company that will spook investors and cause a sell-off of HYBE stocks which they will downplay which will further spook investors. This entire situation is a mess. As ratchet as SM was to make a video calling out HYBE, they were right to do so as they looked to be completely out of options.

Worst thing is its all a slef inflicted wound. there was zero reason to go public with the Feb. 3 stuff.

Do your deals let the public filings take care of it. They tried something maybe to force LSM, but it has gone nuclear in their face.

If they had the vote on the board to go one direction, bring it up vote on it and do this back stabby drop plans over a extended holiday is dumb as can be.

:cat: If they mess with Taeyeon's music, :cat::cat::cat::cat::cat::cat:
They better not though. Even messing with other artists like NCT or Red Velvet. SM is the company that most of my fav groups come from so I'm going to be very angry if something happens.

out of curiosity but which artists have shown they oppose the idea? the only ones I have seen and heard so far were key (and he only said that he didn't know to whom he should go to ask for an encore concert), taeyeon who hinted that she thought the public feud was dumb and had a natural stance and 2 suju members who seemed to just make fun out of the situation. Overall the ones I have seen talking about it publicly had a neutral stance?

I'm referring to what SM said because I have no reason to doubt what they said about a substantial number of people internally being against it. Additionally, you've listed several people who have commented somewhat publicly about it and that is very rare in K-pop so we know that there is a lot of internal discussion going on within the company. I just do not believe that SM's employees would like to be subjected to HYBE's shareholders who are used to explosive year-on-year growth in comparison to SM's shareholders who are used to a lot smaller growth. It's all pure speculation on my part, but SM publicly blasting HYBE is something that they would not have done had there been a lot of neutral or positive opinions about HYBE's acquisition. Also, publicly stating that you are against HYBE's acquisition of LSM's shares could potentially put a massive target on your back internally that I assume most artists would rather avoid at this current stage.

I mean with all due respect OP which companies aren't looking to profit?
every single company whether kpop or otherwise is looking to make $$$

if a product (aka the group) isn't making (sufficient) money for the company then why keep around?
this is a business not a charity
kpop companies are no different than non-kpop companies?

If they took a side they'd either get attacked by SM stans or Hybe stans so doubt any of them wanna go down that rabbit hole

All of SMs groups do make profit though and Hybe themselves have axed profitable groups so it's not about money like people use to defend their actions. Gfriend wasn't as strong as Hybes other groups but there's a reason SM tries to keep their groups and that reason is branding and you can see with how Gfriend even now all have packed schedules because of the value of the brand.

That's why it's more effective for them to just manage their costs in a way that'll maximise profits so if spending a lot on an album for a group doesn't really have a big effect then just spend an average amount.

hence why I said sufficient profits...companies need to earn a respectable return on investment and if for whatever reason a group isn't earning up to that standard (obviously it changes company to company) then it's the company's choice to disband them no?
I mean obviously this is hindsight but if I had to choose between gfriend and LSFM/NJ then from a pure business standpoint - one would choose the latter no?

I'm not sure of the other groups hybe has terminated/disbanded but obviously hybe had their reasons - obviously us as fans of that group or SM fans or whatever might disagree (vehemently even) but such is life

But putting a limit on a limit is arbitrary and doesn't help your company thinking like that because now Le Sserafim and Source Music have a stain on their reputation for their way of handling Gfriend when if they had even just kept Gfriend for 3 years like normal resigns go for until they knew Le Sserafim was solidified they wouldn't be in this mess and it wouldn't have cost them anything because Gfriend would return any cost.

As for other groups Hybe even disbanded Nuest abruptly and they sold around 200k.

but every company puts limits on limits no? it's not limited to kpop
sure there's a stain but how does that stain affect hybe? sure gfriend fans might be upset and it's understandable I would be be too but it's a business decision no?

whether gfriend would have returned a sufficient profit is not up to you or me - it's source and ultimately hybe's decision and that's my point - as fans of kpop groups not merely gfriend or nuest or whatever we have to understand why a company does what it does even if we disagree with the decision to do it...

again I'm sorry for nuest fans but I'm sure hybe had it's reasons and those reasons probably meant nuest wasn't earning a sufficient return...
