And nah, cocoa beans themselves are native the the Amazon rainforest, Europeans weren't able to reach them/the Americas for ages, by that point people had developed their cocoa bean stuff for hundreds of years. The more common version nowadays, with added milk and sugar, was the Europeans doing though. I think they had generally the same idea of spiciness in chili powder as many people do now. That being said, the Europeans addition of sugar and dairy is noticeable in the chili hot chocolate I made even, so that part which is attributed to Europeans being everywhere definitely shows they made a mark related to hot chocolate even if not being the first to cultivate it.
