Irene apologises after accusations about her behaviour (1 Viewer)

On October 21, an Instagram post was uploaded by an editor and stylist about an unnamed celebrity. The post described an encounter with them in which she had been brought to tears by the celebrity’s harsh words and felt humiliated.

She wrote that what she had heard from others should have made her prepare mentally beforehand, but she was left speechless by the celebrity’s words that she described as “electric needles.” “It was over 20 minutes that felt like hell in that unfamiliar room,” she stated. She went on to say, “Even when I thought about it for a while, I couldn’t understand her actions. After I collected myself, I wanted to talk to her properly, person to person, and receive an apology. However, she just disappeared. I recorded it in case something might happen. I should take action toward her.”

The post included the hashtags “#psycho” and “#monster.” This led to speculation about the subject of the post, with many people pointing out that those hashtags are titles of songs by Red Velvet and the sub-unit composed of Irene and Seulgi. Many began to suspect Irene when the editor deleted a complimentary post she had written about Irene in 2016.

On October 22, Irene wrote the following post on Instagram

This is Irene.
I am sincerely sorry for hurting the stylist with my foolish attitude and careless words and actions.
Getting to this spot involved help from many people who worked together with me, but my immature actions caused great hurt and I regret that and am reflecting.
I’ve been looking back on the past because of this, and I’ve felt very embarrassed because of my lacking words and actions and I once again feel how precious the staff are.
I will be more cautious about my actions in the future so that this does not happen again.
I am sincerely sorry to the fans who support me and to everyone who has been caused concern because of this.

SM Entertainment has also released the following statement

This is SM Entertainment.

We are conveying our statement about the stylist’s online post regarding Irene.

Irene personally met with the stylist this afternoon and sincerely apologized for deeply hurting her with her careless attitude and emotional words and actions, and she feels sorry for causing concern with her immaturity.

Our agency feels responsibility for this incident, and we do not forget the hard work of all the representatives and staff who work together with our company and our artists. We will work hard so that this does not happen again to the people we work with.

We once again apologize for causing concern to many people.

Following these statements, the original post by the editor has now been deleted

without the audio(the recording of which is likely illegal in Korea) I say Irene got mad with cause and this 'lady' had a personal grudge.
She is playing the innocent victims card way to hard.

She went after Irene personally with malice and forethought. Irene walked into it ill bet she went off 3-5 min tops.

Irene is my recent bias from Monster/Naughty n Lvl Up Thrilling proj, i sympathise with n believe the stylist/editor.

Im only going by the basic known accepted/agreed facts here n i believe Irene treated/behaved badly to the stylist/editor.
She apologised n the stylist accepted the apology n stated there was no monetary compensation.

Anything else, i believe is victim blaming which i hope nobody here continues to do. I am just stating my opinion here, not a commandment or anything, so take it how you will.

I hope irene learns from this n acts better going forward.
I still love n support her in RV, n watever she does next. But i will hold off somewat too based on wat happens next.

(Any past incidents or corroborating accts[incidents/stories] i will look at n consider as a whole n not in isolation). This has rlly messed up my mind space, cos its the 1st real-time thing happening with someone tat im now emotionally invested in-everything b4 was either removed in time or distance or not someone i stan or bias at tat time. Its upsetting but i dont think my reaction has priority over the one who was wronged in this whole thing, the stylist/editor n the innocent bystanders-whoever u include among them.

way way too many ppl coming to her defense for this to be systematic.

as agents it is their job to protect the artist from themselves.

I just remembered sth i kinda musta suppressed the memory of,
1) Christian Bale big movie star and still working actor, once berated a movie set worker on Terminator Salvation which was recorded but i dont recall if it was ever released to the public;
2) Russell Crowe also infamously screeched and threw a landline phone at somebody in a hotel(?), i cba to google the details;
3) Mel Gibson was recorded on video making a drunken rant during the time where he was being arrested (i believe but also cba to google it rn);
4) the actor from seinfled who acted as Kramer did sth similar in public also.

I hv no point here just tat none of them hv been exactly cancelled or called out as much as irene has(tho the times r different then n now), it just struck me tat without much consequences to these stars wealth relative to their fame and popularity-i doubt anyone would engineer or set up this specific circumstances nor tat bystanders would put their hand in the vice, or watever metaphor fits, to stop it once it happens. Unless Lee Soo Man or somebody who could stop irene or a any big star from continuing to rant, was there. Note tat the examples i stated i believe no one stopped them nor i think did anyone try to. (Im not making any judgement here whether i believe there is a pattern of irene behaving badly towards staff/others-i hv a private speculation maybe different from others thots tat ill keep to myself at this time)

I still support and have affection for irene, but building a defense for atrocious behavior/treatment of the stylist from unsupported supposition isnt helpful, imo.

Im a recent new bias irene n i cant help but i dont think tat she needs a non-factual based defense.

Ultimately i wait to see wat happens next without expectation, both in her life and career-wise.

I don't know I'm a Reveluv and what's more, my bias is Irene. I think that Irene probably does have an attitude issue, but I also don't think that means she is a bitch 24/7, constantly raging, constantly angry, and constantly awful to everyone she comes to contact with-do I believe the statements of those who have come forth? Of course. I have no real reason to doubt them, which of course makes me disappointed with Irene. I want her to not be cruel to the staff and people who work with her.

But on the other end, I do think the editor(?) could've gone about things differently. Her recent statement says she just wanted an apology and nothing more. But everyone and their mother knows that public opinion can destroy someone if it goes in the wrong direction, and what she did was passive-aggressive and definitely a way to get the ball rolling towards Irene being cancelled or hated on. I guess even in her original statement she said she was posting it for revenge (I'm not entirely sure about this) but it just goes to show that when this editor was emotional and hurt; she lashed out. Something humans do.

Of course, I'm glad something like this happened because maybe idols will be kinder if there are other situations like this (which I bet there are) but at the same time if the intent wasn't to harm Irene's image then she could've easily gone with a lawyer to receive an apology and if it still went to shit then come out publicly and actually post the audio. Otherwise this whole thing is just a big childish mess from all sides in my view.

But I'm glad Irene apologized and that SM isn't protecting her from herself.

To me, this is also an unverified fact.

For me, unless there's actual video or witness accounts corroborated by the stylist/others on the scene-i will tend to go to the victim's account here.

There's been nothing iv read to justify irene's extreme actions on tat day tat i can see. If u disagree tat the examples i mentioned hv a parallel to this, tats your right.

I just want irene to learn from this n be a better person going forward. Im hopeful tat she's not the total monster the outside antis/haters are seeming to paint her out to be, sure-not totally pure n innocent but i hv my private opinion which i wont share here.

I will still sympathise with the stylist/any others who hv been treated by irene this way n support them for coming forward. Its not easy for them to do tat. Even if irene has nvr treated any one else badly in her whole life, irene shd reflect n try to change for the better for this incident alone. Yeah I bet that tape had a big reason in at least SM folding like a deck of cards but unfortunately attitude scandals don't go over well in Korea and Red Velvet are an old group already so we'll have to see how SM handles them since I think the affect this has on Red Velvet is more based on SMs own actions than the public reception.
