What I mean is I noticed that the new gen of GGs are release songs that are different from the usual cute concept. Only Itzy is really striving from the new sound but that’s probably because of big3 privilege. Examples - Butterfly by Loona & Senorita by G idle.

Those 2 may be ok because they seem to have larger fanbases to soak that up.

I feel with Pristin the reason they officially didn’t do well is because the company literally dropped promotion of the group all together. I feel iz*onne might be the salvation and bring cute concepts but I also feel they might just be classy concepts instead of cute.

Sales dropped by so much in each comeback that is a sign and not a good one.

Gfriend is cuteish still but they are 4 years old now.
Dreamnote's debut was cute and really good, but to that point they got no traction.
Cute is actually hard, the kids have to be good to make it work.

Iz one could do better with Oh My! type stuff selling to the GP i feel. LVR was fine but its not what they really wanted.
You will notice that 1 person from rumor made the group.
As much as some liked that song, that is not what the folks making the group (gp ) want.

On topic: I think the oversaturation is taking a toll so companies have to find new and inventive ways to make their groups stand out. Non Big 3 groups stuck in traditional concepts (cute/g crush) are essentially fucked. Oh My Girl, Laboum, Nature etc are going to struggle because the top dogs right now, Twice/Gfriend, Blackpink/Red Velvet/MMM, essentially left no room for competition. And multifandomism isn't prevalent in Korea.

Loona's concept is extremely unique, no group is ever going to take away from their fandom nor do they have to compete with anybody.
Finding an exclusive niche is probably the easiest way to go at this point

With there Velvet comebacks yes. RBB was the biggest left I have ever seen a top GG take tbh.

No as I think G-idle and Loona are both still in 3rd Gen and to me 3rd Gen is just polishing the established norms. But G-idle and Loona are unique. Loona in concept and finally with everything about Butterfly. G-idle is a non-traditional girl crush group.

Sort of like how the 2nd Gen had to rebound after the Asian Financial crisis and the takeover by soloist, hopefully the oversaturtaion makes 3.5 Gen and the future 4th Gen be another unique time for Kpop.

loona had a big budget behind them, that's the reason why they were able to experiment with different sounds and that's why their fandom is pretty solid. if other small girl groups had the money to experiment then they would probably do it but they dont. so they usually stick with the same concepts and dont stray away because they can't afford to lose money.

In short, this gen is going against the status quo because of the over-saturation in the industry right now.
