And yeah profiling happens, because morons out to cause trouble will follow a stereotype
Profiling happens because of racism.
Not "morons following a stereotype"
Racism.
Hence it being called racial profiling
Black men breathing should not be a stereotype for trouble

If you act like you have manners chances are the cops are going to relax around you and let you move along. I've seen it before. Getto black guys in LA acting all thug when cops ask what's going on they suddenly snapped to manners and the cops moved along pretty quickly.

Where is everyone going to stand when the police have no power? Who is goidg to be there when you need help you say F the police?
This is incredibly tone-deaf
I really don't think you understand at all

No one is calling for the complete abolition of law enforcement.
No one is calling for anarchy
People want accountability and reform.
It is not right for black people to be stopped at a higher rate than white people, it is not right for black people to constantly have the cops called on them or harassed over minor infractions that would have flown under the radar if anyone else did it. It is not right for police to use force on black people at a higher rate. We should not be tense anytime we get stopped because we know the stakes are higher. Our parents and teachers should not have to have "The Talk" with us on how to deal with police. Asking "What have I done?" should not land you in jail

People should not be living in fear of the police.

This is coming from a security stand point. And I do understand it is racial profiling but again it's the morons out to cause trouble which create the sterotypes. Not the vast majority of the population. When I first started security I vowed not to do it and I found myself having difficulty with people. Then I was let in that sometimes it is called for but it was VERY important not to cling to those sterotypes. (3 second rule) As soon as the first hello was said if everything went off smoothly then stereotypes went out the window.

It IS a sterotype that every black person is going to get angry when you confront them. So you have to be prepared for that. It is a sterotpye that certianly dressed people are gangster and you approach it like that. HECK you can assume any white person with a mullet is a redneck and approach it like that. But the moment you see it's not like that, things are cool, things are aiming for the best outcome. It's not aiming to treat them differntly from a security stand point, it's prepared to handle trouble before it can erupt into something bigger.

Stereotypes are not just the deep dark fed up images of race you think of.

However it is NOT ever okay to assume ever a black guy is automatically going to pull a gun, or a middle eastern is a terrorist. Common freaking sense is needed.

....

We could always replace the police with the TSA.

I really like and respect Amber, as an idol and as a person. I'm glad she apologised quickly and sincerely. I know she's the impulsive type but I wouldn't expect this from her so it's quite disappointing, especially considering where she was raised. Everything you see always has a bigger meaning behind it, I don't think she's a racist person or should be "cancelled", but racism is still a huge problem that is integrated in several situations each day. It wouldn't kill to have more empathy and really think carefully before you speak.

Hope she's alright and won't be too harsh on herself though. Everyone says things they shouldn't have sometimes. At the end of the day, it was just a mistake and she had no bad intentions.

this is the thing, the authorities DO let it go. they let it go for a lot of people. that's what the girlfriend was pointing out. that there were several people on the platform eating so why is it that he was singled out? i still think its egregious and that the police officers are in the wrong for handling it the way they did. like i said they could've handled it better by making it an issue with the transit authority and not thru cops.
Again that does not matter.

The officer is engaged and they are not not moving on until the person complies. Then maybe they would cite the other folks.

Who knows why they engaged. It does not really matter. If i am speeding and 30 other people are speeding yet i am pulled over does it do any good to say hey they were speeding too? And get all crazy over why did you pick me?

Once the government at what ever level has its eye on you. your hosed.
They don't like the color you house is painted fight em but end the in end you loose and even if you win it cost more money and time than it was worth.

This was a nothing matter. Friendly neighborhood girlfriend videoing the deal just adds gas to the fire.

Take the ticket. Talk to the judge. Nothing good is going to come of fighting over something this dumb.

You are really trying to justify racist policing tactics

Black people have been caricaturized as violent and dangerous 'savages' for centuries. Those tropes have always been used as justification to marginalize and oppress the African-American community. Slavery, Jim Crow, Chain Gangs, the current issue of over policing we have right now. All justified by "They're violent and they deserve it"
Demonizing and fear-mongering against certain groups is a tactic as old as time.
Not because "morons out to cause trouble created the stereotypes"

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are phrasing this very very poorly

If you hold preconceived notions of a race and choose to act on it, you are a racist. That is pretty much racism in the purest, denotative form
If you get tense and go into fight or flight mode because someone is black, you are a racist.
If you need to be coaxed out of that stereotype, no one should be giving you a gun or putting you in positions of authority

It is no one's job or responsibilty but one's self to fix that thinking. Nobody should have to "prove" themselves for someone else's error in thinking

When some stereotypes are okay and others arent, who draws the line and where?

About the situation, the police were wrong for singling the guy out and he was wrong for not complying. This isn't really a right or wrong thing, they both did wrong but say he did comply and he was still arrested then the police would've been 100% in the wrong.

About Ambers response it was thoughtless and very harshly worded and the hat story did not help her case at all. If she had just said "well he did ignore the officers orders" she'd have probably been fine but it comes across as mean spirited with what she said. Amber hopefully learns from this and becomes more sensitive about these topics but for people cancelling her then what's the point in her learning if she's cancelled anyway? That part of cancel culture has never made sense to me.

As for racism as a whole you really have to be living under a rock to not see it as nowadays every race is racist to every race. Black girl and white boy couple? The black girl is a traitor and it happens if the couples races are swapped too same with asian and white couples. There are more extreme cases like the guy having a whole squad on him for picking up trash which was only solved by a white guy vouching for the black guy.

A racist is a racist and they exist in every race but we can't let them cloud our judgement so the people who truly want equality are fighting each other.

At the end of the day law enforcement does not live in our world.
They just do not. The vast majority of people they deal with are breaking the law or lying to them.
They see the worst in people day after day after day.
That adds up.
Expecting them to be like the person in the next cube in an office is not going to happen.
They are going to judge on training, experience, what peers say but mostly experience.
Is it fair maybe not, but that job sucks.

The suckage factor is just too high and the life numbing ickyness of it all.

i guess it's just the general distrust people have for the cops. also speeding is a little different from just eating on a subway platform. it seems pettier. you're also not hurting anyone, you don't have the potential to hurt anyone either. you're just eating. and when you're on a platform full of people breaking rules and they come straight at you, and then you live in a world where you feel like this shit happens to people like you all the time, i don't know, all that makes me understand why he was having none of it. why people feel the need to film this sort of thing because they want to be able to show proof if anything happens. and if police want the respect back from the community, they have to earn it by not doing dumb shit like this. i'd love to see how many people have had cops tell them to stop eating on the platform. something tells me it's not something that happens a lot.

i definitely sympathize with some cops. and i understand that their job isn't easy. but no one is expecting them to be like the person in the next cubicle. i think about how when atatiana jefferson was killed in her home people blamed the black neighbour for not knowing better. he called the cops because he saw her door open and was scared. but he also had the foresight to not call 911 but to call the non-emergency number to get a wellness check. he did everything he could to make sure things didn't turn out badly and yet she still died because of a careless cop. all of these instances just make people not trust the people who are supposed to be protecting them. at the end of the day that's on cops. they need to do better and start living in our world.

The best that will be done is fire the bad actors.
The nature of the job will lean to ugly or lethal mistakes.
Regular cops are really not there to protect us despite what it says on the cars.
They are there to keep order and instill fear of breaking the law. Most do it with out ever getting on the news.
It also does not help that when they make the hard calls and are right they still get killed in the press.
Every time that happens they draw the blue line deeper.

I'm just shock she had this opinion, I would think with how connected to the US and hip she is Amber would be all in with the BlackLivesMatter and such crowd.
It's disappointing because while she isn't black, the police don't or didn't treat Asians any better. During the attack on KoreaTown back in the
1992 LA riots the police left the residents defenseless despite them calling and from what I heard the govt didn't help repair anything. All because frankly no one cared about Asians or immigrants.

The American equivalent of pulling a Tiffany smh
I like Amber and Tiffany but I understand if Americans or Koreans don't after their incidents. Ignorance just makes it that your so self observed you can't even be socially aware. But it's funny how Americans defended Tiffany hard when when she held up the equivalent of the Nazi flag but with Amber they want to cancel her.

Basically the outrage over this has to do with two real problems in the USA; police brutality and systematic racism.

Because the USA was founded at a time of European colonialism and white supremacy, society was based upon race based slavery and racial discrimination/hierarchy. This went on for centuries and affected people of non-European descent or of the wrong European descent for centuries and in different ways. Examples,Native Americans were all but eradicatied, African Americans enslaved and Asians kept out of the country, given the worst jobs, discriminated against or even massacred. Even after slavery was abolished in 1865 the USA legally and culturally discriminated and terrorized certain groups of people, the largest being African Americans.

Based upon notations of racial inferiority and
stereotypes of black as dangerous, law enforcement and the judicial system systematically targarted and mistreated the black community for centuries. Lynchings, race massacres and unfair arrest/conviction were common and used as a way to keep the black minority ( and other communities) in line. This only really began to change in the late 1950's and 1960's as various Civil Rights Movements advocating for the equal treatment and rights of ethnic and racial minorities gained ground and began to change laws.

However due to this history and continued socially injustices the black community is wary of law enforcement. Not to mention recent cases such as the killings of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Walter Scott. This is partly why the man and his gf reacted the way they did. And is why many people are angry at Amber for being racially and culturally insensitive, which she was.

Perhaps in your country this dynamic doesn't exist but in a society like the USA and for a community like African Americans (or blacks of other descent or even the Latino community) this is a real problem and reality. Many people in the USA are working to address this issue and it's very politically and racially charged.

The amount of people on this thread who are completely tone deaf when it comes to the issues that Poc, especially black people go through on a daily basis when it comes to law enforcement is sad. This guy was literally just eating a sandwich, and from my knowledge there were multiple people eating in that subway, this guy was singled out though... so the police have anything better to do then arresting a guy for eating a small sandwich? Man if the police wanted to let the guy know that you can’t eat on the subway then they should have said “hey you can finish your sandwich this time but for the future your Technically not allowed to eat on the subway” or something like that. But asking the guy for an ID over a sandwich is ridiculous. There are people who eat all the time on platforms like that, ITS NOT A BIG DEAL. And with the amount of black people who face police brutality every single day, I don’t blame him for reacting like that, it’s completely appropriate. I am not black, I’m Arab, and I’m lucky that I live in an area where the only things that I’ve faced is some ignorant comments, but my family did not get that. My father has been pointed at with a gun from a police officer for trying to teach his brother how do drive in America. He was scared to even go to work after 9/11 because of all the judgment that his white coworkers would give him. He went to work, and a friend told him to go back to his house because he was afraid that my dad would get in trouble simply for being Arab. Now this is only a little bit of what my father had to go through because he wasn’t white in america, imagine all the shit that millions of black people go through everyday over simple shit like this and then think why this guy wasnt cooperative with the police officer. If there are people who genuinely don’t see a problem with the whole general idea of what amber said then then that’s genuinely sad.

The issue here though is that the man wasn't supposed to be eating there. It was illegal to eat there in the first place so the police officer had every right to tell the man to stop eating his sandwich because it was part of his job. The aftermath of what happened, with the man begin detained was definitely too far but I feel like no one can comment if that was due to an issue of race or not because no one knows what actually happened. We're all talking about this based off a few tweets when none of us were actually there.

Amber wasn't commenting on the race of the black person at all, but the fact that he should be respectful to the cop. She didn't take into account the race of the man and the issues that black people go through with the police which is probably what caused him to be so defensive. This made Amber come of as racist but it was more that she was being ignorant, like mentioned. She should obviously know better as someone who was brought up in the US, but I dislike the idea that she cannot be forgiven at all.

But a lot of people were eating on that platform. The police officer was there to investigate a call of an intoxicated woman. Not to detain and try to arrest a man for eating a small sandwich. The police officer could have just warned him and let the guy finish his sandwich instead of escalating the situation into something more then what it had to be.

I'm really sorry but would you mind showing proof of where you got that info from? If that was true, it would change my perception of the whole issue. I don't really think it's going to change my stance with Amber's situation but it would certainly help me find out more info on what actually happened.

Thank you for the video. It really brings up the issue of if the cop would have been so aggressive if the man wasn't African American. I see your point in the fact that the man had every right to be aggressive because of his people's history with the police. If we put the whole issue with Amber aside at the moment, then it really is a rinse and repeat of THUG LIFE. Something needs to be done about the law enforcement in America.
