I think you're overstating After Schools success as from what I can see it peaked at 135 on the Melon daily chart not even cracking the top 100 although information on Oh My Girl old songs is hard to find for Melon nowadays.

I did look at the Gaon numbers though and After School hit 155 while Oh My Girls lowest is Cupid at 103 with everything else cracking the top 100.

Ah true, ig I meant more Oh My Girl's biggest hits for the most part were after that "almost disbandment" stage

And I meant After School's popularity more compared to ggs of their age and generation not among hit songs among ggs in general or smth like that

But you're right, Oh My Girl had hits like Liar Liar before JinE left. And she was already on hiatus before she left. So I don't understand why Woolim thought that (Jine leaving for her health) put them towards "may disband if next comeback isn't a hit" territory

Well while physically Coloring Book was still showing growth however digitally it was the first time their digitals declined as from Cupid to A-ing they grew from 22k eventually to 213k with A-ing but Coloring Book only got 70k so knowing how much of a setback a lineup change can be they probably looked at that and thought the worst.

WM wasn't going to just drop Oh My Girl though and pulled all the strings they could for Secret Garden even getting them on Knowing Bros and it ended up hitting #2 on Melon and that along with the other metrics ended up being enough to just beat out Chungha for getting a win which helped their brand and shockingly even before Nonstop Oh My Girl were alongside Gfriend and Mamamoo as the most expensive non big 3 group per event I think it was.

As for Weeekly I do see that After School did well for them on Youtube and their album sales had a good jump as well which show promise however you really have to look at how IST doesn't seem interested in giving them a comeback to see what they think about that and that makes me believe they are focusing on trying to get Weeekly to do well on the charts which could be a bad spot for them to be in long term.

not true but you need to look at the numbers in comparison to the bg of the time.
early fan base pioneers like

Snsd (they are the outlier since they sold numbers similar to the best bg of the time) for example bts stray kids 17 are selling 4+ million no gg is close to that. and it was worse before IZ*one broke thru gg were at like 10% of teh boys.(except twice. BP numbers are more catalog until they went big in the west)

Female Soloist have not sold physicals well really until The SNSD girls went solo.
Taeyeon was the first to break 100k ( the uber gold standard for gg for a long time) iu was in the 40k range until 2017 or so.
Jessica sold 80 k with the full sm black out in effect and beat Tiffany's 60 k.


Part of the reason is the way Korea consumed music . They were and are the most wired country in the world and very early adopters of digital music, especially among the general public.
GG and Soloist tended to target that more friendly gp market. Also many many many soloist do OST's which are mostly digital only with only token album runs.
