actually Seohyun and Irene have the same real name Joohyun. Irene is older than Seohyun by like 3 months, but ofc junior to snsd :)

I would suspect the name was for the same reason Seo got a stage name.

It is interesting that there was in sm a Model named Irene Kim who was friends with many 2nd gen artists.
