Ult, as I understand it, stands for "ultimate" which is the top bias (number one) from a ranked list of all stanned idols or idol groups. So your ult bias would be the one idol on the top of the list, only one unless there are two or more tied at the number one place; same with the ult group.

However, I have seen users listing more than one as ults, even ranking them. So I've been curious about how each of you define the term. How do you define "ult bias"? Ult group?

I view it as the same as you, my ult is the idol I love the most and my ult group is my favorite group.

My ult groups are the ones I focus more on. I have three tiers:

• Ults: Will buy merch from, keep up with their daily content, talk about them all the time
• Stan: Will only sometimes buy merch from, know quite a bit about them and follow them but you don't hear me talk about them as much
• Casual: Know the songs and will check out new releases but don't know members names, and won't buy merch from

My ultimate bias is just Jeonghwa as putting anyone else there feels misplaced however my ultimate group changes based on activity since while taking everything into account it would be EXID since they're my favourite but I usually call Oh My Girl it at the moment since they are the only one who definitely has a future as a group.

For me B1A4 have always been my ults, but there was a three year gap between Rollin and Origine released. Ulting an inactive group isn’t the best, so I used to refer to them as my ‘boxed ults’, meaning whilst I loved them, I wanted to also ult a more active group. That’s where EXO come in. They were my solid second favourites, so they were naturally promoted to ults.

All that makes sense in my head anyway.

For me, I have two ult biases (bangchan and khakii) and then i have 4 ult groups (skz, p1h, itzy, and nct) stray kids are my ult of ults groupwise and bangchan is my ult of ults bias wise.
An ult to me, I would say, is the group or person that you talk about more or keep up with more, buy more merch from..

I stan even less easily, I mean I don't buy any merch nowadays and yeah NEP JAPONISM has no physical release so it doesn't help

Ult bias - that one artist you like the most (overall). In my case, this position is hard to switch out. So it's the same person for a while, years even.
Ult group - that one group you like the most. Your ult bias doesn't have to be in your ult group.
Ult bias in a group - that one member of a group you like the most. This can be multiple people, especially for multis. One of these people could also be your overall ult bias.

Every one seems to hv a different definition; for me my ult is Jessica n my ult grp from when i stanned only 1 grp is Girls' Generation. But if they hadnt been 1st n foremost, I mighta had different ult grps cos my ults r inactive rn. Only sentiment n the fact iv known of 'em since 2009 n they brought me into kpop to stan 'em is the only reason they cant be displaced.

(This leads me towonder wats the hangul terms for ults/bias/stans, or did international stans magnify the significance smh).

I kind of use ult and stan interchangeably because if I like a group, I usually have to go all the way. I also have 3 groups/people tied for ult.

I used to have only one ult group and one ult bias but since stanning a bunch of new people it became more complicated than just having one since there might be several groups that are maybe just a percentage away from you placing them at equal level. Considering I am someone who stans dozens of groups and keeps up with several in comparison to some other people, it was natural I suppose to eventually begin ranking my ults. I think that it is going to be most common among people that stan multiple multiple groups for them to rank even their ult groups by tier


I already have tiers of how I view groups aka: neutral/don't listen to, like, soft stan, stan, ult, ult of ults. Example of neutral is someone like Nu'est who I don't listen to, example of like is G-Idle, example of soft stan is Astro, example of stan is Treasure, example of ult is Itzy, and my only ult ults are Woodz and Stray Kids.
The reason why I have several ults nowadays is because I have idols that I like that are very close to each other in ranking. I have 3 ult ults and maybe 6 ult biases because they transcend their group and hundreds of other idols to be the ones that I am the most fond of.

According to this definition, I'd not ult anybody since I don't (can't) buy merch for financial reasons, and talking about them all the time is a bit complicated for me since the bulk of the forum is about kpop and my bias groups are Japanese, so I don't talk about any of them as much as I would otherwise; but if I could, I'd have 4 ults, PassCode, Kolokol, Neo Japonism, and Zsasz, again, according to this definition.

EDIT: My ult idols in this case would be Nao Minami, Kino Yoshina and Tim Vincent.

They would be PassCode, Kolokol, Neo Japonism and Zsasz for me, well, it'd be to Japan in my case.

For me it’s the same, I’m a fan of a lot of groups but my ult is the one whose music I like the most, and my ult bias is my favorite idol
I do like some other of groups and biases more than the others tho (2nd fav idol, like their music 2nd most, etc)

This is how I would define my tiers:

• Ult: Will buy some merch from, try to keep up with their daily content, talk about them almost all the time, write fan fics centered on ult
• Stan: Will buy less merch from, know quite a bit about them and follow them but you don't hear me talk about them as much, include most members in fan fics about ult
• Casual: Will check out new releases, download songs, know members' names, will include bias members in fan fics about ult

If I don't know members' names but regularly stream music, I would not consider myself a fan of the group but a fan of their music/producers.
