Yeah, I've done that too but I don't know if it would connect to my ADHD at all. I just know I've forgotten I responded to someone when I did already and more things along those lines. That results in my getting lost in a conversation online or repeating myself too much in person.

I think these online professionals just aren't equipped the way they want people to believe they are-I mean if they were I feel like a lot of misconceptions about an overdiagnosed disorder like ADHD wouldn't be an issue anymore either. But yet we still have a bunch of people thinking it's as simple as "Hi my name is- OH A SQUIRREL!"

Whereas we have so many people thinking OCD is as simple as, "I like to have everything organized and cleanly."
Yeah I didn't even bat an eye of a lot of behaviors that I had because I thought ADHD was a lot different. After actually looking into, I realized that it's possible that I have it as well.

OCD is absolutely NOT being a perfectionist and people really really need to see that. I'm pretty sure most people w OCD don't even need things to be organized or clean, me included. Like I'm a really messy and unorganized person and people are like "but you have OCD" like that's not what it is at all. OCD can be an obsession over ANYTHING, neatness is just one of the many things people can obsess over. and even so, it's not an urge for something to be clean. what classifies OCD is that the person thinks that something bad will happen. So even for people with neatness OCD its more so that if it's not neat, something will happen. I've never had neatness OCD but I have a LOT of other subsets of it so this really frustrates me.

Yeah, that's the issue with the ADHD thing is people often go undiagnosed because of the preconception of what it actually is when in reality it's a lot more complex. There are sensory issues, emotion regulation problems, impulse control problems, and links to depression and anxiety as a result of the disorder too. There is obviously more as well and to make it a bit harder everyone experiences ADHD differently so just like OCD there isn't a case that tells you exactly how it'll be all the time.

In a lot of cases the child or person with ADHD struggled academically and THEN there are people with ADHD who actually prospered with academics but had issues with making friends and maintaining friendships. The symptoms and how they affect people show up differently for each person. My boyfriend himself has ADHD just like I do-and his sensory issues come with food textures. He gets a VERY strong reaction to smells, tastes and textures when it comes to food and it results in him being a very picky eater.

But for me, mine shows up with sounds and things touching me.

Luckily I was able to take some courses that talked a bit more in-depth about certain disorders that are usually glossed over. OCD was one of them but the documentaries we watched did follow people who did have cleaning compulsions but the person also had the rituals like having to turn a light off and on 7 times before she could leave a room.

Disorders are a really wide spectrum and people need to stop assuming everyone with a disorder acts similarly. Or that it defines them. The stereotypes really get out of hand. With depression, people are assumed to be introverted people that constantly cry. Same with anxiety. For ADHD, people usually think of a boy thats screaming or running around.

My rituals are all mental like I mentioned earlier so yeah it's tough. Unfortunately though, a lot of people don't understand that OCD comes with obsessive fears and behaviors. A lot of people get really surprised when I tell them that Relationship OCD and Homosexuality OCD is a thing too because it's not what people would expect.

Here are links that might help explain them in a way I can't
.

ROCD is basically obsessing over the idea that your relationship isn't right. People with ROCD often convince that they aren't in love or that their partner doesn't love them, even if it's not trust. They'll do things to justify their relationships and avoid "perfect couples". It also supposedly has a really big effect on intimate relations with one's partner as well as they might have intrusive thoughts about being intimate with someone else (like a coworker) and start obsessively fearing that they're in love with someone other than their partner. The issue is that the brain makes it so that you physically feel less in love because of these thoughts. Because people with this are so afraid of not being attracted to their partner, their brain makes them feel genuinely not attracted to them, destroying their relationship.

HOCD is obsessing over the fact that you aren't gay. I actually had this a few years ago. I knew I was straight, but I had so many intrusive thoughts about not being straight that my mind basically started to tell me that I wasn't. I knew I was, so to fight that, I would constantly look at pictures of girls to prove that I was straight. I am straight now and I always have been, but HOCD has a physical effect on your body too. When I saw a girl, my brain would convince me that my heart fluttered or that I was attracted to her, even though I very very clearly was not. It's like being manipulated by yourself. Look at me now, boy crazy smh :shamesica:

A lot of people with HOCD are actually mislabeled as being homosexual. A lot of people think that it's just their "gay awakening" but there's a pretty significant difference.

I'm not good with words so those links might help a lot.

Wait...is that an actual thing or is this like some made-up Shane Dawson BS?
It's a real thing. It's awful, completely and utterly awful. I don't think I would wish it on my worst enemy.

Basically it's the obsessive fear of NOT being a pedophile. Since people hate pedophiles so much its perceived as the worst possible thing a person can be. To be a pedophile would be equivalent of being a mass murderer.

So since being a pedophile is disliked, the brain goes "well what if YOU were a pedophile?". Which is normal, everyone has those thoughts. but with ocd people obsess over these thoughts so much to the point that they start avoiding children. i actually read a story of a father who had this, and it made me really sad because he started avoiding his children.

I don't even know how you would work to help with that because when they are around children their brain might be like, "Oh you like them." or "Don't look at that part!!!! You don't want sinful thoughts!" and I know one of the ways of helping with OCD that is more active like that is exposure therapy mixed with another type of therapy. (??? I might've used exposure therapy wrong here)

But shit...that would be tough.

Yeah it's the same with like ROCD or whatever, whenever they see another attractive person their mind is like "dont look at them! stay loyal or you'll fall out of love" its all really sad and im just so lucky i dont have it. then again ive never dated so who knows what the future holds.

I know for me I sometimes have the thoughts that seem to come with ROCD but it's not to the point that it affects my love or attraction for my boyfriend.

Yeah that's the issue. Most people have those thoughts so a lot of times people with ROCD think it's normal. Every couple has those thoughts, just like everyone has intrusive thoughts. Like "what if i steered to the right" or "what if I stuck my hand in this blender?". the issue is when people start obsessing over these thoughts.

my biggest fear is that like...what if i married and then my ROCD makes me fall out of love :jisoosmh:

Wait do you have ROCD?

And yeah makes sense-I think some times its hard for people to differentiate between an intrusive thought or an obsession verses a regular passing worry.

I don't but based on the fact that I've had 5 different types already I wouldn't be surprised if I developed it once I start dating

The only solution is to marry Jaehyun, that way I'll never fall out of love. :shamesica:

I like watching videos from professionals. I think u can kinda notice when someone isn't being professional and when someone is. Professionals go in depth in their field and point out specific things u wouldn't have noticed on ur own. Though i guess anyone can research stuff and then talk about it, but at least u are providing good commentary even then :jisoosmh:

But ofc seeing some backing and credentials is nice. And genuine interest, not leeching on views on topic u have no interest to understand.
