Her husband claimed that he said he needed to go to the bathroom while she was driving them down a 3-lane highway. She stopped the car in the second lane and left and was subsequently hit by a taxi and an SUV.

First and foremost my condolences are with her family and friends.

The chain of events though makes no sense. South Korea’s roads are known to be dangerous at the best of times, but to just stop like that in the middle lane of three is madness.

If I had to throw out a guess, it sounds like they got into a fight or he was physically threatening her to the point where she felt she needed to vacate the car immediately.

That sounds so weird, this definitely needs to be investigated. Stopping middle of highway doesn't make any sense, especially for that reason, you would definitely try to exist highway before such thing, even if you didn't see any rest-stops or gas stations where you could go, you would exist the highway and stop in the side of smaller road. Or at most you would stop in the side of highway, but even that's risky to do and you would need emergency lights on to warn people, especialyl after dark.

I hope she's able to rest in peace though, and that investigators will meanwhile get bottom of this.
